Anyone else excited to get a call?
Maybe I've been living under a rock, but what is this phone-a-thon? Acceptance calls?

Basically, they call admitted students as a recruitment strategy.
There are two other sessions - so once you both are accepted this week, you can get recruited aggressively next week!

I went to Michigan for undergrad and already get aggressive calls from the Alumi Association attempting to solicit donations. The law school would not surprise me.

So what do you plan on talking about with them? I'm super interested in Michigan but feel like I just need to go to ASW. I got a cold call from Cornell JD ambassadors too today but missed their call but would have no ivdwa what to say anyway

I've had an exhausting crappy day at work (my new supervisor realized that I'm secretly an imposter and have no idea what I'm doing!) and so my plan was just to cry on the phone.Keilz wrote:So what do you plan on talking about with them? I don't know - just ask the usual questions - why did you go there, are you happy, blah. I know nothing about law school (this is a big career change for me) and so I was planning on just asking them to tell me of their lives.
Anyone have any questions they'd recommend?

What are you top choices? I'd ask for things that they think distinguish Michigan from the other schools you are targeting. We have the exact same numbers (although you are a URM and I'm a half URM) and your cycle has been amazing. I'm praying I get half the results you got!azaleafire wrote:~Darrow~

Duke is my other top choice. I'm leaning towards Michigan. I don't know if it's just a recruiting tool, but the friendly attitude is really appealing to me. I'm not going to law school to be in the rat race again with colleagues nibbling at your tail constantly. I have no more tail left!!!mrgstephe wrote: What are you top choices? Having been on the other side of these sorts of recruitment strategies, I am quite aware that they often set things up to sound just below too good to be true.

Re: Michigan c/o 2020 applicants (2016-17)
So I need some info and thought I would try this out,
I applied binding early admission at Michigan, was moved to regular admissions(probs to see my new lsat score from December), got my score of 168 went up from 164, and a week after the score came in I was accepted at Michigan. I think the way things played out was for the best as now I got into Michigan and I am open to other top law schools, so I am happy about that. Additionally, I had a 3.72GPA as an undergrad at Michigan.
So to the point of this post.... I did not receive any merit aid, like not a single dollar. I have seen on this post and heard that people at or around the medians have received some merit aid from Michigan so it sort of angers me that I got nothing... I was wondering if anyone knows if applying EA had any bearing on this or generally those at the medians don't get any merit aid at Michigan(also if you got merit aid from Michigan could you let me know how much so I can know how to approach them) ... I am expecting to receive some need based aid as I did qualify for full financial aid throughout undergrad, and my parents make welll under 100k(under 50k), and really cannot contribute anything to my edu.
Hoping some of the other t-14 schools I applied to accept me and then give me some good merit offers!

I applied ED and got $15K a year, which is pretty much what I expected given my numbers and applying ED.nzmich wrote:So I need some info and thought I would try this out,

Got the phone-a-thon call yesterday! Student was very helpful. Said Michigan will negotiate scholarships but won't consider scholarships from lower-ranked schools.

Nah, they'd definitely negotiate with a Duke scholarship. They are referring to below the T14, but even then, a sizable T20 scholarship could sway them into giving more moneynimbus cloud wrote:Probably lower than Michigan per US News, so 11 and down.Sarastro wrote:What's their definition of lower-ranked?pizzagoblin wrote:Got the phone-a-thon call yesterday! You don't think they'd consider a full ride to a T20 a threat? Either way, worse case scenario they just say no when you try to use T20 as leverageproteinshake wrote:I don't think they'll negotiate with Cornell and down. they will definitely negotiate with Northwestern and up, though.RParadela wrote:Nah, they'd definitely negotiate with a Duke scholarship. It's certainly possible and I would try if it was my only option, I doubly it'll work in the majority of cases (if ever) is what I meant to say.RParadela wrote:You don't think they'd consider a full ride to a T20 a threat? Happy to discuss this, PM me.
More generally, Michigan is an awesome place, so if you can get here at a price that works for you, highly recommend. I was on the fence (see user name) and could not be happier with my decision.
