I just wanna say I'm proud of y'all. A lot less freaking out ITT today as compared to the other waves.

Congrats all who got in!
Questions:
1. do they interview everyone or just people on the bubble?
2. how long after interviewing are people hearing back (acceptances)?

Columbia claims they're expanding the interview program in general, but usually it's borderline candidates and scholarship candidates that get interviewed.bettyboopydoop wrote:Congrats all who got in!

FWIW, I interviewed in December and still haven't heard anything.

In with a Butler, email timestamped yesterday morning around 11.30EST! For what it's worth, submitted 11/1 but for some reason didn't go complete till almost a month later. Interview invitation early Jan and had the interview on the 10th with Christina Ross. It was super chill and conversational, didn't feel like an interview at all. She asked about my decision to go to law school, the transition into a new environment, why Columbia and my plan after law school. Commented on a resume-specific thing but I didn't really use the opportunity wisely to talk more about that experience.

Does Columbia give out any merit scholarships besides their named ones? Meaning do they negotiate at all?

Yes, though they really only consider NYU and UChi to be peer schools. I did have a friend get a scholly bump using a half-ride from Penn, but it wasn't much and it was like pulling teeth to negotiate.jjcorvino wrote:Does Columbia give out any merit scholarships besides their named ones? Thanks, that is what I figured. Sticker at Columbia is hard to agree to, especially with COL.Bearlyalive wrote:Yes, though they really only consider NYU and UChi to be peer schools. Bearly, I know you got a Hamilton, but do you know if they give you anything/how much you might get based on HLS acceptance?Bearlyalive wrote: Yes, though they really only consider NYU and UChi to be peer schools. I haven't even gotten into NYU or Columbia yet, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't commit. COL would be absolutely murder.jjcorvino wrote:especially with COL.

+1 unfortunately. It's more about the ego boost of getting in at this point.guybourdin wrote:I haven't even gotten into NYU or Columbia yet, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't commit. COL would be absolutely murder.jjcorvino wrote:especially with COL.

Don't know, sorry. I can't think of anyone I know personally who got into both HLS and CLS, but didn't at the very least get a Butler before negotiation. I do know of a person that got into Harvard, had a Butler at CLS, and then got additional aid later, but it's not clear how much of that was need-based. Sure there are some others lurking around there though. Maybe ask in the "Ask A Columbia Student" thread?carlos_danger wrote:Bearly, I know you got a Hamilton, but do you know if they give you anything/how much you might get based on HLS acceptance?Bearlyalive wrote: Yes, though they really only consider NYU and UChi to be peer schools. Butler and Hammys come with the acceptances right - no chance of one being offered later unless you negotiate? because if so, then I actually fit the criteria aboveBearlyalive wrote:Don't know, sorry. eta: shoot i guess you mean "i dont know anyone" as in "im not sure i can advise you on this" rather than "it doesnt happen". nvm then.

Same situation here, but wanted to point out that it could be that this is a common situation and Bearly doesn't know of anyone bc they all went to Harvard instead of CLS (since cost of attendance was so close w/ no Butler or Hamilton)R. Jeeves wrote:

In via email! Nothing about any named scholarships though (I'm hoping for one of the PI ones).
