Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Hey, how long did it take for you all to receive something in the mail from UVA after acceptance?
Also, how long is the wait usually between acceptance and scholarship offers?

I received something in the mail very quickly after acceptance. They put it in the mail the next day and I got it a few days later. This was back in the fall so things could be taking longer now.commandercup wrote:Hey, how long did it take for you all to receive something in the mail from UVA after acceptance?

I don't know the answer to your second question but I know it has been discussed many times on this thread so look back a few pages and see if you can find it.

Well I spoke to one of the Admissions Directors when I toured UVA in January and he said that they expected to be done with handing out Merit-based awards by the end of February. I was admitted in November so I'm pretty sure I'm not getting anything.nickhalden wrote:How do you know you've been passed over?Shelbinole wrote:is it even possible to negotiate from nothing?Mack.Hambleton wrote:NegotiateShelbinole wrote:Well it's officially March 1st and I never got a scholarship. FWIW: Fin Aid is meeting next week for non-Dillard based merit aid. It seems most law schools are behind their timelines.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
This may be a bit preemptive. I don't think anyone has gotten their full financial aid package yet. I'd hold out on seeing that before giving up that you haven't received any grant/scholarship money at UVA. Looking through last year's UVA c/o 2017 thread there were definitely applicants who were receiving grants/scholarships as part of their fin aid package that had not been notified of their scholarship previously, that actually seemed to be the norm. So I think there's still definitely a chance that you could get something. Did you fill out all of the fin aid paperwork? If this cycle is consistent with last we should be getting access to our fin aid packages later this week!Shelbinole wrote:Well I spoke to one of the Admissions Directors when I toured UVA in January and he said that they expected to be done with handing out Merit-based awards by the end of February. Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I'm not even admitted yet, but if I were you I wouldn't get pessimistic yet. As other posters have said, it's been a delayed cycle in general and a weird cycle at UVA in particular. Specifically, it sounds like the AdDirector was giving a very general and vague statement. It would be stunning if you received no scholarship offer.Shelbinole wrote:Well I spoke to one of the Admissions Directors when I toured UVA in January and he said that they expected to be done with handing out Merit-based awards by the end of February. If by all the paperwork you mean the FAFSA and Need Access then yes. As far as I know, that's all they require. I doubt I'm gonna be getting any need based aid which sucks because I'm not getting any help from parents but whatever. I hope you guys are right about hearing about merit along with financial aid packages. UVA is my top top choice and I'm gonna be heartbroken if I get no offer and can't go!

Hello everybody,
I am looking at UVA 509 and it says 38% of students are receiving grants. It means that 62% are not receiving any scholarship money and paying all the costs. Do I interpret these numbers correctly?

Damn. I guess that's how they pay for all of the Dillards. Even using the in-state tuiton rate and excluding the grant recipients, that's $9.1 million in tuition revenue for one class for one year.Mack.Hambleton wrote:I believe soLaw1491 wrote:Hello everybody,

Just had my interview. I think it went well, but it felt kinda short (~10 minutes).
Fingers crossed

Isn't TLS wisdom: don't go to law school if you have to pay a sticker price for it, and 62% of the smartest people in the country are paying just that: sticker price for UVA. I am so confused about it...nickhalden wrote:Damn. I guess that's how they pay for all of the Dillards. Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
TLS is a relatively small and self-selecting group that is just as prone to group-think as any community. I'm not saying the TLS consensus is wrong, but it is definitely on the conservative end of the advise spectrum. I work for attorneys who know I am leaving for law school and whom I have turned to for advice, and when I quote the TLS line to them I get strange looks. Partly I think that TLS people are risk averse, but I also believe that the new reality of a shrunken legal market and the availability of statistics has not fully penetrated the legal culture.Law1491 wrote:Hello everybody,
