Re: Georgetown c/o 2018 Applicants
Starting to get anxious, went complete 12/2 (RD btw) and haven't heard anything since. Numbers are admittedly borderline. Median LSAT and 25th-50th GPA. But it seems like people with similar numbers and completion dates are getting Held/WL/Ding.

Kind of sad that this alum interview might add a few more weeks of waiting :'[

Re: Georgetown c/o 2018 Applicants
Just got an email that I'm being considered for merit funding!
In a bit of shock, tbh, as only one school so far has offered me money and it's outside the T14. The email asks that I let the scholarship committee know how much money would make a difference in my decision and how I'm feeling about Georgetown.

That's exciting, although quite dangerous. Anybody have ideas on whether this is a good time to bring up scholarship offers from another school in the t14 or too early for leverage stuff?

This is a good question. I'd like to know the answer to although I haven't even been admitted to Georgetown as of today.hitherim wrote:Just got this too....mindthegap wrote:Just got an email that I'm being considered for merit funding! In a bit of shock, tbh, as only one school so far has offered me money and it's outside the T14. Seriously. If anyone comes up with a graceful way to say "no less than half tuition," pls share.rwe13 wrote:Super unsure of what to say for how much funding would make a differencehaha

Maybe that's a good time to bring up an offer from another school (if you have) and say that due to Washington D.C.'s cost of living you'd want a comparable cost of attendance. If the other school is located in a less expensive area (so NYU and Columbia are out), maybe that would hopefully encourage them to top the other schools offer?rwe13 wrote:Super unsure of what to say for how much funding would make a differencehaha

Not a negotiation expert or anything, but my inclination would be to allude to it without naming specific schools and exact dollars from each one. For instance, after stating how excited/interested you are in Georgetown, say that based on your offers from other schools, you would need x amount of aid to make it a viable option for you. It just seems early to put all your cards on the table, so I'd wait until you have an offer, and then bring them out if you need to.ticklemesilly wrote:This is a good question. I wish I had other offers. I got a full ride from a school way out of the top 14 and haven't submitted my paperwork to Cornell yet; only other acceptance is Chicagoticklemesilly wrote:Maybe that's a good time to bring up an offer from another school (if you have) and say that due to Washington D.C.'s cost of living you'd want a comparable cost of attendance. Money is always awkward to talk about, but they are asking, and if you have a strong application, it's not an unreasonable request. Sometimes it helps to give a dollar range or ask for something "in the ballpark of $x."Dipper wrote:Seriously. Sounds pretty reasonable. But say I'm comparing Georgetown to a higher ranked school. Do I ask for more $$, because of the rank difference?ticklemesilly wrote:Maybe that's a good time to bring up an offer from another school (if you have) and say that due to Washington D.C.'s cost of living you'd want a comparable cost of attendance. Re: Georgetown c/o 2018 Applicants
Thanks for the advice, guys! I'm using my phone or I would've expanded on my PP to add that I have no idea what to say. :s I wish I had another T14 offer to bring to the table but I think I will try to rely on the high COA for Georgetown and how a merit scholarship is the only way to make the school affordable for me. I'm worried about mentioning the higher ranked school I've been admitted to because I don't have a money offer from it and I'm afraid I'll come off... Snobbish? (Not the word I want to use but I can't think atm.)

One possible way to say it is to allude to higher employment placement score for the other school? Or say, x school has placed better in my field/locale of interest.mindthegap wrote:Thanks for the advice, guys! That might sound like you're not interested in attending the school. I would tread very carefully- it's almost better to just name names (because adcomms undoubtably know the school rankings/job placement scores and don't need us to spell it out for them). I would just say Chicago (or whatever is your higher ranked X school) has offered me a 50% merit scholarship but I'm very interested in attending Georgetown. I'm concerned about COA and would be very interested in Georgetown if my COA could be made significantly lower than it would be attending X schoolDipper wrote:One possible way to say it is to allude to higher employment placement score for the other school?
