Could someone confirm this?

Those who are RD and borderline have no way to speculate when their decision will come nor do they have a way to speculate what their decision will be. Their decision will just be rendered at some point over the next several weeks.

How long does it usually take to get the email after the status checker changes? I may have to use the whole "go out and get drunk and try to forget about it" strategy too.

Looks like a few pages back there were instances of people going UR and getting a decision same day, but others have had to wait forever after the change.

It wouldn't be in keeping with my cycle to hear back soon, so I'm assuming I'll get a WL in 8 weeks.

Why do I have to "apply for financial aid and scholarship assistance" to "be officially admitted"

Elaborate in the sense that they effectively don't exist outside HYS (but that doesn't stop people/schools from pretending they do!)

For the record, I already did receive a response with a need-based grant offer (albeit a paltry one compared to the merit award) from one of my schools; need access submitted sometime last week. So need based grant does exist, and my family is relatively wealthy (I just personally am broke and made it clear my parents have no intention of helping pay for anything). Can't speak for Duke specifically though still waiting there but they did seem very, very persistent about the "need based" element.

Got the 'Decision Rendered; watch for email' update in the afternoon and unsuccessfully checked my email compulsively for hours. So I decided to go get drunk, and when I came home I thought to check my spam folder, and there it was! Stoked! ...and also drunk.

What's the consensus on the advisability of visiting the school before receiving a decision? I'm going to be in the area over the weekend and early next week, and I was thinking about stopping by.

If I do, what's proper protocol? For what it's worth, I have veeeeeeery borderline numbers (in profile). Call ahead of time and let them know I'll be there? Ask if I can meet with someone in admissions? Stare longingly through the Dean's window and cram home made cookies under the door?

Halp halp, I'm a noob and I don't know what to do.

For Duke, only call ahead if you want to meet with someone. For tours or sitting in on a class, you just show up. I don't think they're open on the weekends, so you'd have to go early next week.

I'm probably going to a tour and sit in on a class early next week, too. I think the tours leave at 9:45 from the admissions office.
