I bet some of these people got into Berkeley. Actually, I know for a fact that at least one of them did. I almost wish I could trade my UCLA+$$ for Berkeley, but I love UCLA, too...helloperson wrote:I have no idea what is up with this school. Looking at LSN this has to be YP:
All these people were waitlisted

kinda scary for me too I guess... what do you think my chances are? 172/3.52, submitted 11/01 and haven't really heard since...jrose5 wrote:I bet some of these people got into Berkeley. I think every one of those people got into a higher ranked school. The 177 got into NYU, and the 172/3.5 into Penn and Mich. 3.91 got into Cal.jrose5 wrote:I bet some of these people got into Berkeley. Actually, I know for a fact that at least one of them did. I don't know. Better than mine. Sitting on a 171/3.3 even though it's EE I don't think schools actually care/weight the GPA appropriately. Hopefully they'll see the 4.0 I had at a different state school doing joint enrollment in high school and realize the school I attended is designed to murder GPAs, but I doubt it.kinda scary for me too I guess... what do you think my chances are? 172/3.52, submitted 11/01 and haven't really heard since...
I went to USC... I hear the bruins there really hate us Trojans! Don't let my application become tangible proof validating this rumor!cassidylane wrote:dpk711 wrote:kinda scary for me too I guess... what do you think my chances are? 172/3.52, submitted 11/01 and haven't really heard since...jrose5 wrote:I bet some of these people got into Berkeley. If it helps at all I just got in with 171 and 3.6 (from a top ten school).....but I'm not sure where those numbers from LSN are coming from? I did not see them when I last checked but I may just be totally missing something...
waitlisted is the UCLA rejection. like when you ask a girl out and she says "maybe." what she really means is "no way."cassidylane wrote:dpk711 wrote:kinda scary for me too I guess... what do you think my chances are? 172/3.52, submitted 11/01 and haven't really heard since...jrose5 wrote:I bet some of these people got into Berkeley. edit: I was not paying attention and didn't see that you said waitlisted, not rejected. Maybe its as simple as they didn't like their essays or something....

Is that right? UCLA hasn't dipped much into their WL pool in past cycles?helloperson wrote:waitlisted is the UCLA rejection. like when you ask a girl out and she says "maybe." what she really means is "no way."

They may dip a little bit, but they already accept so many students that the dip isn't much. Further, they waitlist so many people that you have no idea how good your chances are of coming off the waitlist if you stick it out.jwmalone87 wrote:Is that right? well i think congrats are in order...when did you go complete?
I'm in the same boat. Admitted mid January with no word of scholarships over the phone, however, their acceptance email seemed to encourage negotiations. I got the same amount at Texas, 45k at Mich and hefty sums at WUSTL and UIUC I'm going to throw in to the negotiation ring.mikeydan5 wrote:I am also posting this to the admitted thread:
I was admitted to UCLA in early January, and I didn't receive a scholarship. I got admitted to Texas recently and received an in-state tuition waver and $9500/yr. Since they are tied in the rankings, I wrote Dean Schwartz to see if UCLA could offer me a scholarship. Has anyone had any luck negotiating for scholarships so far?
The grant email says, "We very much hope you find this offer competitive with others you have received. Please let us know." So it sounds to me like they're very open to negotiation. good luck!vegenator wrote:I'm in the same boat. I emailed Dean Schwartz over the weekend to see whether I am being considered for scholarships (and mentioned that I had others I was considering). He emailed me back saying that I should forward the other offers on to him and then he would forward those onto the scholarship committee.
Hoping I didn't jump the gun here, but I'd like to start negotiating somewhere. Under the right circum$tance$ UCLA could be pretty attractive![]()
On an unrelated note (and I'm way to lazy to go through and catch up on all pages in this thread I've skipped, so I appologize if this has been discussed before), but...
During my acceptance phone call, despite not being offered scholarships and having no indication of financial need on my application, Dean Schwartz offered financial assistance for attending one of the admitted students receptions. I followed through on that, and they're offering to pay for the airfare. Sweet deal if you ask me, so if anyone else needs help/was offered help definitely send an email, they seemed really willing to help out there.
And CONGRATS to all the recent admits!
