I should just print this thread out, give it to the mailroom in my school, and highlight that second to last post, and write in big red letters, "EXPLAIN!"

Just curious - how many folks who applied to NU did the "optional" essay questions? Why/why not?

I wrote one of their optional essays as part of my application process and did so for every application for schools that offered that option. Why? Schools receive thousands of applications per cycle for only a few hundred seats. I felt that if I was able to tell the committee more information about myself, it would be incredibly lazy of me not to do so. Most of the optional essays I've seen are an optional one-page statement on a particular topic and it isn't that time consuming to develop the document.

By the way, congrats jaskat! I know you have been anxiously waiting for that envelope...

I didn't do the optional essay, but only because I thought I had said everything I needed to in all the other stuff I sent them.

Thank you bklyngreenlp and Burger (apparently you DO have prophetic powers)

+1. I wrote the optional essay for Northeastern, and was excited to have the additional opportunity to personalize my application. I am 100% certain that it was effective because I have no GPA and therefore would not be considered an autoadmit, but Northeastern sent out my acceptance 4 days after I applied. I highly recommend writing those optional essays, and good luck!

Haha! To be honest I was a little nervous that the letter might NOT show up today, but I was sure you would be accepted. :) Congratulations again!

I didn't apply for anything in particular- just applied to the school and wrote the optional essay. The extra essay might have helped with the $3k Public Interest Co-Op Stipend? (the essay was about Public Interest)

When does it say they mailed your decision Tram?

I didn't apply for a scholarship either. I didn't even know there was the option to apply.

Are you living in a dorm or other place with a mailroom? Also, where do you live?
I had to talk to the people in my mailroom to get them to dig through the letters they hadn't put in mailboxes yet.

Still no letter in the mail, more coupons from bed, bath & beyond though, so all is well.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
