Is there any upside to sending a short email saying that I am still very interested in Columbia?

I thought about doing that... But I remembered they said in that email only if we have something to add, so I don't think its a good idea. But it might work.

I think it's pretty late in the game to be sending out LOCIs. They told us we'd hear about their next decision mid-July(which I'm assuming is this week). So pretty sure our fates are set in stone at this point.

But hey, wouldn't hurt.

Having received an email from CLS at 1 PM PST, I was finally ready to let rejection's cold grip release me from the chains of bondage. Surely I would not be subjected to something so ridiculous as a third reserve list. A cruel irony it was then when fate did coming knocking at my email. And so I ride once more, for the circle of reserve is everlasting.

Sooooooooo ridiculous. This is what happens when they put 50% of applicants on a waitlist. Honestly, schools like CLS and UChicago need to stop acting so unsophisticated and make tough decisions DURING the application process. It's a disservice when you offer applicants a spot on a "waitlist" that's nearly as big as your original applicant pool.

Do they post waitlist stats? I'm curious how large each Reserve group is. I'm planning on turning down scholarship dosh at my safety and reapplying to CLS in the fall if I don't make it in this wave.

No they don't post those kind of stats-- wish they did. Earlier in the thread, jalapenocheeseburger posted this:

"Here is some data on that from a few years back:

Percent of applicants waitlisted, past three cycles:
1. UVA: 46.4% (1016 of 2,189 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
2. Penn: 42.7% (672 of 1,575 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
3. Columbia: 41.7% (651 of 1,560 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
4. Chicago: 40% (545 of 1,363 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
5. Michigan: 33.6% (583 of 1,735 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
6. Harvard: 29.4% (383 of 1,303 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
7. Northwestern: 29.3% (333 of 1,135 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
8. Duke: 29% (501 of 1,729 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
9. Stanford: 26.4% (230 of 870 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
10. Cornell: 25% (315 of 1,262 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
11. Georgetown: 24.3% (550 of 2,265 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
12. NYU: 19% (314 of 1,654 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
13. Yale: 16.7% (98 of 587 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)
14. Berkeley: 6.8% (118 of 1,723 applicants on LSN were waitlisted)"

Not entirely a fair representation b.c. it's based off voluntary self-reporting. Nonetheless better anything else you can find online!

I am still waiting to hear back from Columbia. Anyone know if this could mean anything? I called the school on Monday just to ask a general question and the person I spoke with willing told me that the decisions would be sent out this week.

Third reserve could be going out in waves as we've seen in the two prior reserve pools or it could be the regrettable rejection letter via snail mail. Hopefully it's not the latter, good luck!

I got put on the third reserve on Monday, just wondering if anyone actually got rejected/how many people total are still on it? When do you guys think the deadlines going to be to hear back from them by?

Referencing previous reserve threads, I believe it's been up until orientation.

I've counted 10 placed on 3rd Reserve so far, though there are probably quite a few more not on TLS.

The letrer indicated that they should announce between early August and the start of classes.

Edit: I was wrong, there is no 4th reserve.

What made you think there's a fourth reserve? I thought it seemed like this was the last one

The letter I received from admissions made it seem like there was a 4th Reserve, which I can only imagine looks like the nightmare dimension depicted in the Insideous series. That reserve runs from early August (whenever they announce 3rd Reserve decisions) until the start of classes.

Yeahhhhh... pretty sure 3rd R is the end of the road. The AddComm might admit people from 3rd reserve before orientation AND possibly during orientation, but I would caution you against expecting another non-decision "decision" letter.

I re-read the letter and you're right - this is the final one. Good luck all!

officially freed from the shackles of the reserve group. good luck to all CLS students, and may the administration you encounter during your time there display some sort of decisiveness and haste not showcased by the admissions staff!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
