This thread was really eye-opening for me, and made me realize that after tax and COL for a lawyer in NYC or DC (including standard COL, but also suits, dining out, etc that probably bump it up for a typical lawyer), a big law salary still doesn't leave a whole lot if you're paying sticker debt: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... p?t=220025
This thread was the best and most terrifying thing I've read on this website. But really, they should like send this out to everyone thinking of going to law school.
They should read it around the campfire to kids at camp

The thing that scares me is that I've worked really hard and sacrificed a bunch to save the money I have over the past few years. All of that disappears and then some when I sign on the dotted line and go to law school.
