Was wondering if anyone on here has had any luck negotiating scholarships with W&L? I have offers from 2 schools ranked in the 50s offering me significantly more money (and continue to consider them if W&L does not come down a bit). W&L had me send in a form along with my offer letters than I had a phone meeting with Dean McShay (very pleasant meeting but of course included a soft sell over how much effort they put in to award competitive scholarships and how W&L offers X,Y, and Z over the alternatives). He indicated that reconsideration requests go through the Admissions Committee and they are currently limited to award between $0 to $5,000 additional on reconsideration (Dean McShay notes as well that he has rarely seen them giving the full $5,000 anyway). Are there any other TLSers that have had experience negotiating with W&L? If so how did it go? You can PM me as well if you don't feel comfortable publishing your situation on the board.

I went through the same process, as well. I actually ended up getting a $10,000 increase in my scholarship. That being said, I also had an increase by 2 points in my LSAT score, so the 0 to $5,000 wasn't as stringent in my case. I was very honest with the dean, too. I told him the number amount W&L would need to beat and if they beat it that I would 100% absolutely attend W&L.

That's reassuring! Depositing early next week sometime.

Does anyone know about any housing fairs/ roommate search forums that'll happen in the next few months?

Definitely a nice increase. Using the Law School Transparency formula (full time long term bar passage required, excluding solo practice) this brings their employment score from 56.6% in 2013 to 64.6% for 2014. LST Underemployment Score (those who do NOT hold full time long term Bar Passage Required OR JD Advantage jobs and still consider themselves in the job market) will go from 35% in 2013 to 24.4% in 2014. Additionally, W&L really cut back on giving out school funded jobs (probably due to the decreasing need to do so). Their school funded rate was 11.2% for 2013 and is only 1.6% for 2014. Students going into large firms (full time long term at firms with 101+ attorneys) took a hit however going from 16.1% in 2013 to 15.0% in 2014. Hence, W&L grads may be improving a bit at getting jobs, but not necessarily in Big Law.

Needless to say these employment stats aren't necessarily groundbreaking, there are similarly ranked schools with better numbers. Most of these schools however are in different regions (i.e. take a look at SMU -- however over half the class stays put in the Dallas market, which is a good market for anyone around the country). The main takeaway for me is that over the past few years W&L took a dip (both in rank and employment scores), however the 2014 numbers reveal that it is on a track to recovery and back in line with its Mid-Atlantic peers. I am interested to see when the NALP report comes out which will have salary and "how they got the job" info as well. W&L's OCI placement rate, especially for Big Law, is a little disappointing compared to some peers.

Yup. I haven't heard anything back since the email they sent a few weeks ago letting us know the waitlist is being reviewed. It's torture. I refresh my email inbox hourly.
