Tons of places to go. It depends what district you'll be near. As for restaurants close to SMU, usually Uptown will be where you are directed. However, there are a number of really nice, 5 star restaurants across high way 75 on Greenville Avenue. SMU is sorta in the middle of two major highways: 75 and DNT (Dallas Tollway) so if you go the opposite way, towards the tollway, there are some Brazilian steakhouse places that I like. However, literally a block away from campus is this German place called Kuby's. I personally believe its the best breakfast I've had since I've lived here (18 years) so try it in the morning. Kuby's in the morning, torchy's (a tad bit overrated taco place near campus) for lunch, then make your pick for dinner depending on which district you're in.

Tl;dr: Whataburger

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely check those out. I also hear that the consensus for bars is uptown district as well?
ya. A little expensive, but that's usually where to go. You may find a pro athlete there as well. I'm such a big Stars fan (the hockey team) that I know where a bunch of them live (or I just read the paper).... and ya they go to uptown

If I'm lucky I'll see Tyler Seguin absolutely blasted hanging with like 10 girls a la those photos of him shitfaced in the streets of Boston. But I digress (Read: please come back to the Bruins, we suck now)

seguin actually hasn't been going out much. Right before Christmas my friend (valet parker at Northpark) parked for him twice, both different vehicles. One was a ferrari, and the other was a customized blacked out jeep. He had some foreign, ratchet girl with him twice. But, apparently, he usually stays at home and guys go over there, which I guess is the smarter thing at this point

Kuby's is terrible.

Try Meddlesome Moth, Common Table (Stars go there a lot after practices), and Katy Trail Ice House.

Katy Trail is Uptown.

Babbs is Trinity Groves (it's southwest Dallas, also BBQ), Cane Rosso is Deep Ellum (pizza), Torchy's is all over.

I'll stop hijacking the thread now :).
that's okay, cuz I feel like most posters ITT ( not me I guess, cuz I already live here) will find this information interesting for impending visits.

And I've actually been to Cane Rosso! I remember it now. Torchy's is overrated, imo. But I really did look up that "Common Table" restaurant (Die hard Stars fan and I go to virtually every home game) and it sounds reallyyy freakin good

In that case, other places to eat & drink in Dallas:

Chuy's Happy Hour & Gloria's happy hour
Oddfellow's (Bishop Arts)
Tilman's (Bishop Arts)
Breakfast at Breadwinners (Uptown)
Rise Soufflé (Lovers)
Pecan Lodge (Deep Ellum)
Sissy's (Knox/Henderson)
Company Cafe (Lower Greenville & Uptown)
Good2Go Taco (Lakewood)
The Gingerman (Uptown)
The Foundry (Southish, not really sure what neighborhood. Near the jail)
Times Ten (Lakewood)

Also, go to Top Golf.

And I stand by Torchy's.

I am currently in the process of finishing up materials to be submitted by Monday. I was wondering what is the diversity like at SMU and the area surrounding the campus? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone for all the tips for where to go in Dallas! Now I may have to do some type of Restaurant/Bar Crawl through the city and see how many calories and fat I can possibly consume in a weekend

The Foundry/Chicken Scratch is basically south Dallas, just on the other side of the river from Downtown. It is wonderful. Also, Smoke is amazing for brunch and Emporium Pies is great for "I'm full from brunch but also had 15 mimosas and now want to drunkenly eat pie". You could spend a day just hanging out in Bishop Arts.

If you're closer to campus, you can check out Barley House, Milo Buttfingers (Milo's), and Nodding Donkey SMU. All much more casual than Uptown and usually less crowded (except on game days).

+1 to Hopdoddy's. I haven't been to the one in Dallas, but both locations in Austin are amazing.
