Checking in! I haven't submitted my application yet, still finishing my.
Question for everyone else though - has anyone gotten any communication from YLS before applying? I got a letter in the mail yesterday asking me to apply and I don't want to get excited if it doesn't really mean anything.

I got a letter today inviting me to apply. The packet also included a Yale viewbook and a packet of 15 sample personal statements and 250s, along with a one page tip sheet on how to approach the PS/250. I'm below both medians, and my GPA is actually below their 25%.chelseamorgan wrote:Checking in! I haven't submitted my application yet, still finishing my.

I'm not getting excited about it, but it is a nice touch from Yale. It's much more meaningful (since it actually cost Yale $$$ to produce) than Harvard's blanket "We're Harvard, please consider applying" email.

Yale is now a reality in my application cycle this year. Love their relaxed way of grading during 1L, and it seems to be less stressful than most schools. Also, I love the fact that 1Ls can participate in clinics
Not bad at all

In response to an earlier post--I retook the LSAT and recently graduated YLS. I essentially noted in my application that 1) there was an irregularity on the day of the test and 2) I had been hired by a test prep company in the weeks following the LSAT based on my practice test scores. Not sure to what extent this approach helped assuage the doubts of admission committee members, but that was how I dealt with it.
Several classmates also retook, however, I am unsure how they explained away their lower test score.

So, not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but...
For the Yale 250, what do you guys think about writing about something more personal, like a hobby or interest - as long as it shows off another side of you? Or is it supposed to be more analytical, to show off your reasoning skills and intellect? I feel like I've seen more of the latter in sample essays.
Thanks all!

This is from Asha's blog (the whole series is a pretty good read):limabean15 wrote:For the Yale 250, what do you guys think about writing about something more personal, like a hobby or interest - as long as it shows off another side of you? I'm using it as an opportunity to write something personal (although I know people who have written one that shows their academic writing).http://blogs.law.yale.edu/blogs/admissions/archive/2008/01/23/the-250-word-albatross.aspx wrote:The 250 is a chance for you to explore something you care about that might have ended up on the cutting room floor in writing your personal statement. Maybe it's a policy argument. Maybe it's a piece about a hobby or passion of yours. Maybe it's a personal anecdote. There's not much you can't write about.

Pretty much. She answered questions about applications and a little bit about 1L at Yale. She is very pleasant and made it enjoyable!DetroitRed wrote:Is this a school-specific recruitment webinar?
