Clearly this is wrong, Northwestern has already waitlisted a number of people...

Everytime someone tries to explain that a hold is different from a waitlist they sound more and more like the same thing.

There was a description floating around a while back, describing the difference like this:

Hold = we think we want you, and we'll give you another chance to prove yourself before making a final decision.
Waitlist = we might want you eventually. not now, but if some of these other folks don't work out, maybe.

And in many cases, hold leads directly to the waitlist anyway. The key is that it doesn't have to.

Johann states this isn't the case. Hold means the entire class has not filled out. Waitlist means the class has filled out. Hence, why no one has been WL yet in NU's cycle / they have so many Holds. See my above description.

How do you know? Everyone held is putting "WL" on LSN. They're actually held.

At the time I was held I remember others saying that there was a clear distinction between those held and those put straight to the WL. Could be wrong, and perhaps they were just alluding to the lack of a distinction on LSN and getting confused themselves. Still, it doesn't sound like any of the above posters have any secret information the rest of us don't have, which means we're all speculating anyway.

I'd say it's likely, but I'm honestly not expecting any acceptances.

I don't think there's going to be any movement this week. Last year's held applicants started hearing back on the 7th, so next week is probably a good bet. Also they just added another round of applicants to the held pool, so they'll probably give them a few days to submit essays/schedule interviews right?

That's true Rahulg, but also there are people who have been held since March...(I am not one but I feel for you guys) so I feel like they need to know by now how they feel about those March people?

I can't remember what the consensus was...is deposit deadline April 15 or 30? If 30, I bet we won't hear until after that passes so not until next week.

Also, I am not sure I ever found a straight answer but is there even a waitlist in existence right now or no?

And personal question: if I mentioned in my LOCI sent two weeks ago that I will be taking the June LSAT in hopes to raise my score up to be accepted, do you think they'll hold off on deciding about my app until end of June when scores are back? Does anyone know how to "submit" a new score from LSAC to the school of your choosing? I'm also on another waitlist that my score might help me at.

Leigh, I believe all the schools that you still have live applications with will receive your LSAT score via LSAC, but you'll probably want to email them the day you get your score as a half-LOCI/half-"hey let me in, my score is more competitive now".

Whether or not they'll wait until the July release of the LSAT score is a tougher question but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they were willing to wait on the score arrival with a held->waitlisted.

Also, I don't think we'll hear anything until May (hopefully beginning next week). Spoke to someone at admissions last week and she said she thinks we will start hearing back this week and definitely into May, but the way the individual said it made it sound like May was a lot more likely.

that seems like a large percent, but I assume it's a large list. Either way, good to hear, and thanks for sharing. For the WL are there optional essays/ videos/ assignments or you just wait?
