It says in mine that I will be assigned to work "within the Law School administration and Law Library departments."
Good question; I'm also curious about the answer.

Ah, good catch, mine does as well. But because it says "within" those two departments, I don't know that it necessarily means you'll wind up working in the library. I bet the give out more specific roles once they know who's enrolling. FYI: I was pm'ing with a grad fellow at W&M a while back and s/he worked in the library and loved it. Said it was basically paid study time with a little work.jac101689 wrote:It says in mine that I will be assigned to work "within the Law School administration and Law Library departments."

EDIT: Sorry, just re-read my conversation with that person. Grad fellows split the 8 hrs. per week into 4 with the library and 4 with the law school administration in some fashion.

I am interested in this too. I want to work in Atlanta (and have all my ties in Atlanta), but am worried W&M won't give me as many options as UGA or Emory.AT9 wrote:Did they actually offer a specific position? In my letter they just mentioned that, at least in the first year, I would work either in the law school administration or law school library. They didn't say exactly what I'd be doing.jac101689 wrote:Those who've gotten fellowships: which did you get? They offered me Library!
To anyone familiar with W&M: how important is it to have ties to the area if you're shooting for DC metro or the other large cities in VA? Is the W&M degree portable to other areas where you have stronger ties?
I like the idea of studying at a school/area with so much history and having a shot to practice in the DC area, but I'm worried about my lack of ties to that part of the country.

I think if you rank well enough you can snag some good jobs in DC or even NY. At least this is the impression the dean gave when he called me. Seemed corroborated with research.

If you're certain you want to work in ATL, I don't think W&M over UGA/Emory makes much sense. If you want to work in ATL but would be ok working elsewhere, then it may not be a bad option. I just spoke to an alumna of W&M who graduated around top 1/3 and got back to her home city in the South without much trouble (in 2009 no less). In reference to my question above, she was 100% sure that having no ties to VA wouldn't be a problem if you're coming from W&M, UVA, W&L, GWU, or Georgetown with reasonable grades. And, much like I thought, it's more of a problem when you graduate one place (say, W&M) and try to get to some other market without ties (say, Arizona).wsparker wrote:I am interested in this too. While I'm impressed with W&M's transparency with employment info (the list of job locations with the admissions packet was great), I'm a little concerned with their 40ish grads who were employed by the school for like a $20K/yr stipend... I wonder if those grads wind up landing something decent after the fellowship ends?

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I am not sure it makes much sense either (esp for the same cost), just checking ha. For what its worth, I also talked to an alum who works in atl now with no ties. In regards to the grads who are employed by the school, i wonder how many are post grad fellowships?AT9 wrote:If you're certain you want to work in ATL, I don't think W&M over UGA/Emory makes much sense. Status check says "Review Complete-Hold for Further Reviews" ... Does this mean I am now officially on the dreaded waitlist?

For you guys in via email, do you reply the acceptance email to express gratitude or something? It's my first acceptance email, and I literally don't know what to do about it.

In via email this morning!
I'm wondering about scholarship money or fellowship acceptance, would that have arrived in the email also? I'm not as well versed on the process as I probably should be.

No. Your app will go under review again, and then they will make a final decision, which could be admit, reject, or waitlist.Nucky wrote:Status check says "Review Complete-Hold for Further Reviews" ... Does this mean I am now officially on the dreaded waitlist?

Scholarship info arrived today! $84,000 over three years, almost completely financing my education! Very impressed with the personal touches of the phone call and the note on the letter of admission.

So it says you have to maintain out-of-state residency to keep the Fellowship...but that it becomes a "prorated scholarship" if you become a VA resident after your first year. Anybody know anything about this scholarship? Does it go down?

Nice. In surprised that they only offered me the basic fellowship when my LSAT is so far above their median. I definitely won't realistically consider attending with their first offer.altoline115 wrote:Scholarship info arrived today! $84,000 over three years, almost completely financing my education!
