Re: American University- WCL c/o 2017 Applicants
I actually had a dream last night about WCL's new law school building. I lived on the same campus that the law school is being built on as a part of their Washington Semester program. I'd like to just go ahead and get a decision at this point.

Anyone got any word on scholarship yet? Any idea when it might be coming?

Yes. They definitely aren't responding in the order in which they were received, grouping acceptances and dings, or using any other reasonable method.NoDayButToday wrote:kellohitty wrote:I'd like to just go ahead and get a decision at this point.

The financial aid one specifically notes that you should file your FAFSA regardless of whether you have received a decision, because otherwise you might not know your need-based grant award before the deposit deadline (assuming you eventually get a favorable decision). I think they just want to make sure you understand that if you don't file ahead of time you may have to slap down a deposit before you know if you can afford to go.NoDayButToday wrote:American also keeps sending out emails that normally would only go out to accepted students, in my experience so far.
Like, today, about financial aid. Or past emails about events on campus.

Re: American University- WCL c/o 2017 Applicants
Just had my status date change on 2/5 after application received on 1/14. Hopefully this means good news in on the way. Saw someone mention a why WCL letter, went back to the application form to see why I didn't do it and couldn't find an area for that. Should I just write up a why WCL document and shoot it to their admission department?

I was accepted in mid-January and I had a campus visit shortly after that, admissions officer said that merit scholarships should be going out either this week or next week. Yay! Schollys!!

Received scholarship info this morning... $10,000 a year. Also, I checked LSN and it looks like everyone with similar numbers got the same amount.
Similarly ranked schools have given me as much as three times more $ than American; ALL of them have lower tuition.
Do y'all see something wrong with this? Does American usually lowball the first offer, with an expectation that they'll negotiate? If not, I don't understand how they stay relevant because there's not much incentive for people who will improve their USNWR ranking to attend.

There's something horribly wrong with this. I applied because I've completed their semester in DC program and really liked the area. However, after research through LST and their stingy scholarships, it's really difficult to justify attending WCL.bigvol wrote:Received scholarship info this morning... $10,000 a year. I've been complete since a few days after you. Getting antsy. Also when I called last week regarding a status update, I was dismissed and said that it was normal to be at application complete since November and I was hurried off the phone.ChicagoDawg wrote:ChicagoDawg wrote:Complete since 11/11... 166/3.7... They're strategy to handling admissions has lost them a lot of points from me... Not that they care at all what I think hahakellohitty wrote:I've been complete since a few days after you. Re: American University- WCL c/o 2017 Applicants
I agree. WCL has been the only law school that I've had a sour experience with so far. I've been under review for about the same amount of time at some other schools, but when I've called them, I wasn't dismissed and actually got some substantial information. It's a shame because the people who work for their Washington Semester program are great and I wasn't expecting this experience from AU.ChicagoDawg wrote:They're strategy to handling admissions has lost them a lot of points from me... These letters are often just things people have whipped up and then emailed, as you're saying. If you have a good, specific, and concise reason for wanting to attend, I don't think it can hurt.
That said, I don't know how much interest helps at American, either...coming from someone who expressed a fair amount of interest and still hasn't heard.
Yeah, im not planning on hearing anything back anytime soon. They seem to take their time.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
