Did anyone else just get an email invite to ASW weekend? And did anyone click the link expectantly, only to find that it doesn't work?

I'm surprised there is so little information on the amount/calculation Stanford uses for aid. I only found one thread about a user deciding between an RTK at NYU and a substantial amount of aid at Stanford that had any real numbers in it. Do you guys have any insights you care to share?

Re: In at Stanford: Class of 2016
"In general, the financial award system operates as follows: Each year the school determines a standard budget to cover basic costs (tuition plus living expenses). Each student's need is calculated by subtracting reported resources from the standard budget. These resources include one–third of reported assets; 57% of summer gross earnings over $6,000; assumed earnings of spouse (if married); and an imputed parental contribution (based on the Need Access analysis) if the student is dependent. Each student is then expected to borrow or otherwise raise a portion of this need, with the remainder being an outright grant, subject to a limit of full tuition. Financial aid is evaluated annually; one cannot, therefore, be guaranteed the same level of aid over three years of attendance."amonthofsundays wrote:I'm surprised there is so little information on the amount/calculation Stanford uses for aid. On average, they give $25K and they are known as being more generous than Y or H

I recall reading that the base loan amount to meet this requirement at S is approx 30k and 40k at H/Y. So maybe thats why they get the more generous rep.ManOfTheMinute wrote:"In general, the financial award system operates as follows: Each year the school determines a standard budget to cover basic costs (tuition plus living expenses). Re: In at Stanford: Class of 2016
At Stanford last year it was $37.5k, which is about $5k lower than the expected HLS loan.
At HLS if you are married they divide your assets in 1/2 and then take 1/3 as your per year student contribution. Anybody know if SLS does the same for married students?

I'm more anxious to get my fin aid offer from Stanford than I have been about almost any of my actual decisions.

Bro, this is the internet. Everything is serious. I cannot believe that you would dare to post here after disparaging our reputations so blatantly.Yukos wrote:You didn't really take that post seriously did you? Also not sure why you brought it up here.eph wrote:sTTTanford.

Y'all should read the Financial Aid Handbook, available here: --LinkRemoved--. They haven't posted the 2013-14 edition yet, so the tuition numbers won't be right, but it has a bunch of information on how exactly they calculate parental contribution, spousal contribution, and assets from pre-law school.
Stanford's offer to me was considerably better than Yale's, but after the cost of living adjustment, I would have had about the same amount of debt. HLS' financial aid application required so much info that I didn't even complete it, but friends who completed both HLS' and SLS' invariably got more money from Stanford. I'm a 1L at SLS.
