Anyone else just get an email from them?
Dear enidwexler,
Based on information made available from the Law School Admission Council, I believe you may be a good candidate to join the student body at University of California at Berkeley, School of Law. I write to encourage you to consider applying for admission this year...

I did....but I haven't even gotten my score for the Oct LSAT yet....so maybe they were sent based to people with GPA's on the higher end?

This is probably just wishful thinking, but I'm wondering if schools can access our scores before they're officially released to us?
Also, have either of you started an application for Boalt yet? (I just did the other day - trying to figure out if maybe that's why.)

Yeah, I know it doesn't make sense to believe it, but schools being able to see scores before we can was my immediate thought as well. I wasn't even thinking of Boalt b/c I know they're about the GPA. I can't think of any other reason for them to even waste an email on me unless they're entertaining the idea of a few splitters and my retake met their cutoff. Which of course is now getting my hopes up for my score when I'd been trying my hardest to just not think about it...enidwexler wrote:Hmm. I'm also waiting on an October score...

I received the same email, was a little excited at first. But now I feel it was just a tactic to try and get more applicants. I don't have a reportable LSAT score yet, but I do have a high GPA which could possibly explain the email.
However if they can see my LSAT score before me and thats the reason for the email, I would be pumped...

The "schools see our scores before we do" argument gets shouted down on TLS whenever it comes up. Though I am intrigued with them urging a 2.4 to apply and that was the first thing I thought as well. Unless maybe that was a misclick on their part?
FWIW I got a couple emails in September right around when their app opened urging me to apply. At the time I was very close to both medians. I retook this month and did not get included in this batch of emails but I applied already.

THey want app fees and they want to lower their acceptance rate.BigZuck wrote:The "schools see our scores before we do" argument gets shouted down on TLS whenever it comes up. Do you think they sent this email to everyone registered with CAS that had not applied yet? Might as well send it to everyone in that case right? 2.4 GPA and no LSAT isn't close to any median. Unless there is an LSAT score...

Well to be fair this year's LSAT is a retake for me. I do have a 167 already on file, that's right at their median, right? So maybe one doesn't have to meet both medians to get an email. Still doesn't make sense that they emailed me though. They didn't email me last year. Or like BigZuck said, maybe I'm just a misclick. That seems the most probable thing.

Not to be a downer, but considering there's no application fee attached to the email, there's really no cost for them to send it to everyone possible. The consequences of more people applying is only good for Cal. I wouldn't read too much into whether or not you got one.

Is anyone writing a "Why Berkeley" addendum? What about tailoring your personal statements towards why you want to attend Berkeley Law?

Since Berkeley allows for longer personal statements, incorporating it into a PS works wellsyr1990 wrote:Is anyone writing a "Why Berkeley" addendum? What about tailoring your personal statements towards why you want to attend Berkeley Law?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I think I already said this but I asked admissions dean Edward Tom whether the Berkeley application should include "Why Berkeley" and he answered, my paraphrase: "No. We assume you'd like to attend Berkeley from the fact you are sending us an application."WhiteyCakes wrote:Since Berkeley allows for longer personal statements, incorporating it into a PS works wellsyr1990 wrote:Is anyone writing a "Why Berkeley" addendum? EDIT: my impression is from our conversation is that many applicants do include it, and it won't necessarily hurt you if you do/did. Still not really any point in doing it though if the adcomm feels that way.

I received the email today as well, but mine had a fee waiver attached. I scored a 171 on the June test but I'm waiting on an oct score as well. I'm hoping its a good sign!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
