we need this.......bad
Thank you for pointing out that need-based aid literally exists. I'm just saying it's a relatively small piece of the scholarship money pie. Most of the money law schools award is merit-based, which helps them bolster their USNWR ranking. Sometimes LSs award largish scholarships for a combination of need and merit.splitbrain wrote:...what? No.moneybagsphd wrote:Need-based aid basically doesn't exist anywhere.
UCLA offers up to $20k in need based aid. If this were a thread about law schools in general, your point would make some sense. In the context of UCLA specifically, however, this is irrelevant.moneybagsphd wrote:Thank you for pointing out that need-based aid literally exists. Unless you mean 20k/year (not 20k total), my point stands.splitbrain wrote:UCLA offers up to $20k in need based aid. I do mean up to $20k a year; students have to reapply for it every year.moneybagsphd wrote:Unless you mean 20k/year (not 20k total), my point stands.
ETA: I looked at UCLA's finaid website. I take it to mean 20k total, disbursed over 3 years. That doesn't take a big dent out of the 200k+ COA... at least it's something.

congrats! what will you do about the loans you took out already?SDPalmTree wrote:Just got interviewed and admitted today. I'll have to consider this carefully, as I've already invested quite a bit of time & money at another school...
Well, for one, I'm going to withdraw from UCLA. Just couldn't justify the added expenses (including loss of scholarship, deposit, & apartment money) for essentially the same job statistics. Ah well, hopefully my spot will go to someone more eager to live in Westwood. And good luck to all of you who are going to be braving the 405. Truly a nightmare...success888 wrote:congrats! what will you do about the loans you took out already?SDPalmTree wrote:Just got interviewed and admitted today. That's what on-campus housing is for... The "rampture" is going to be hell.SDPalmTree wrote:Well, for one, I'm going to withdraw from UCLA. Congrats! See you Monday! I concur about the LOCI. They plan on enrolling 310. I don't know how close they are to that number. They said if people don't show up to orientation they get dropped and someone off the waitlist gets called. So, don't despair quite yet! Email Dean Schwartz with a LOCI.Entertainer wrote:Interviewed today, accepted less than an hour laterDean Schwartz said there are still a few people they are interested in interviewing and that there are still a couple spots in the class they are looking to fill. So if you really want it, don't give up hope yet! If you haven't done so extremely recently, I suggest you send an LOCI ASAP.
Good luck to everyone still hanging in there!!!
