Nice! To those going, will you be staying the night in Lexington? I am a little curious as to what their night life entails, I have never stayed in the city..

I plan to be there a few days before and a few days after ASD -- need to check out Lexington while I am there and possibly find a place to live while there.tolson1 wrote:Nice! I don't know much about where law students live, but I know where you WON'T want to live. Newtown and The Lex look nice from a distance, but have terrible management and are crawling with UGs. The Lex frequently resembles Jersey Shore locations.YankeeFan2 wrote:I plan to be there a few days before and a few days after ASD -- need to check out Lexington while I am there and possibly find a place to live while there.tolson1 wrote:Nice! Chevy Chase/Woodland are easily my favorite places in town as far as finding a place to live goes. Nice unique places, cheap rent, close to campus, and near a nice park in town.

What do you think about tates creek? I looked briefly online, I think Saddlebrook? Chinoe, and Tates?

I did not find this to be true. I almost didn't bother calling because of what other people had said on this forum, but I'm glad I did. I called up to ask if I could just get an extra $1,000/year on top of my instate tuition waiver, and before I could even finish my explanation of why I needed it she said, "How about $2,000/year on top of instate tuition? Would that make it easier for you to decide to come here?" It was so easy I'm almost wondering if I should have started out asking for more...Katilicus wrote:Absolutely no budge room on negotiations. The person I spoke to said it wouldn't matter if I had a 171 LSAT, there's just no room for additional funds right now on top of scholarships for in state tuition. Likely will withdraw.

Tates Creek area is nice, but definitely more residential (families and such) than the downtown/Chevy Chase area. Chinoe Creek apts are much nicer than Saddlebrook. Angliana, which is downtown/North Broadway is probably the best student complex, though I'm sure there are others who would think otherwise. Most young people tend to stray away from the complexes in the area, however, and look more on Craigslist or in the classifieds in the Herald Leader to find rooms, lofts, or apartments.tolson1 wrote:ashley12 wrote:I don't know much about where law students live, but I know where you WON'T want to live. I plan on coming in that Friday night. Most of the nightlife is downtown. The Kentucky/Indiana game will be going on, so most of the bars will be especially packed. I'm staying over on Export, and I'm debating whether I'm going to try and relive my undergrad days by moseying over to saddleridge. It should be a fun weekend.tolson1 wrote:Nice! Honestly the morning went about as I expected. The law school building is definitely older; late 1960's building that was built out of quality materials. It fits with the other buildings on UK's campus. I think if they really wanted to save some money they could simply work on renovating the inside (as an example, the seat I was in for the orientation was on its last legs, and the fold up writing platform had been broken off). It's not the nicest building but it's definitely not the worst one on campus.
The powerpoint, mock class, and student panel were all relatively short and to the point. I didn't really hang around to chat up current students or professors, although they all seemed very approachable.
After the visit I've pretty much decided that I'll be attending Kentucky. The next big decision: where to live.

After all things considered, I think my decision lies away from UK.
Good luck everyone! I'm off to OSU or UC. Cost just came into account for UK and its just a bit out of financial reach at this point.

Withdrawn earlier today. After visiting this past weekend, I realized that U of K isn't the school for me. Best of luck to all of you!

Anyone here debating between UK and U of L? Or possibly have any thoughts, opinions, insights?
U of L is about 4K cheaper overall than UK (14k vs 18K). I also received a scholarship to U of L but nothing to UK. Trying to decide if UK is worth the extra 10K or so it would be for me after scholarship. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

10k is nothing in the long run compared to how much you will enjoy the school, where you want to live, and everything else that goes into picking a school (other than money)
if you like UKY, 10 is a good deal.

10K is nothing but when it is multiplied by the 3 years=30K is there 30K worth in a UK education more than a UofL??

I guess I'm a litte thrown off here...I thought you meant about 10k total considering the 14 vs 18 difference...figured you were rounding down from 12.
10k/yr is certainly another story...

Well that changes the situation entirely. I interpreted your situation exactly like USMCmatt. You made it sound like 10k would be the entire difference over three years.fortitude wrote:USMCMatt wrote:fortitude wrote:Anyone here debating between UK and U of L? Coming from Ky, I can tell you UK over UL is not worth the extra 30k. Don't take rank in as a factor when comparing the two. Neither will easily get you outside the state, so if you are counting on that I'd say think again. Both have similar employment outlooks, so I think you should just go with the cheaper option.

Just sent in my deposit. Is there a facebook page out there? I am coming from OOS and need some serious input on housing.

First and foremost, congrats on the decision. Lexington is a great town. I'll be driving down in a couple to weeks to check out housing. There are a few apartment complexes and areas of town that I know law students prefer, so I'm hoping to get a better idea of where is the best place to live.wightjm wrote:Just sent in my deposit. Dean Bakerts email told me someone in the SBA will make a Facebook group in May but don't let that stop you for making one. Not it.kebUVA2012 wrote:Hey everyone! Can we get a Facebook group started for UK 2015??
