So who's going to Legal Scholars Day this Friday? And what are you guys wearing... the admissions lady said business causal so I'm assuming a dress shirt and khakis right?

When I went to Legal Scholars Day last year, people wore a WIDE range of stuff. I wore business casual (slacks, blouse, close-toed shoes), but other people were in sweatshirts and jeans. You'll pretty much be fine in anything.

There were definitely later dates. There was definitely at least one in March and April.

In with 18,000 a year scholarship. Nice, but with 40,000+ tuition & 12,000+ living expenses, thats easily $100,000 in debt. Has anyone negotiated scholarships with Pacific-McGeorge?

This is what I have been thinking. I've also been trying to inquire if anyone has negotiated and I haven't gotten a response. Personally, I sent the dean of admissions and e-mail last Monday (1/23) and haven't received a response yet...

There wouldn't be any purpose for doing so: McGeorge doesn't use a grading curve.

Legal Scholars Day today was pretty cool, and it included what I thought was a neat feature: a panel of five current students answered questions with no faculty or staff in the room, and they seemed quite honest when asked for negative thoughts as well as positive ones.

I was also impressed with how few of the admitted students today were locals--we all know McGeorge is sort of a regional school, but there were students from everywhere, many with no ties whatsoever to Sacramento.

I have the numbers to do "better" and a couple "better" admits already, but I still might end up here. I know I wouldn't regret it if I did.

This is a misleading statement. The median GPA is around a 2.81. There is no forced curve on how many As, BS or Cs one must give, but there is pressure to curve to about a 2.8. These grade distributions are posted outside of records, take a look at the 1L classes. You will notice profs who give As also gives Cs and Ds, there are also a few socialist graders where there might be only 1 A- but only a couple Cs.

The curve is very much alive.

I partially disagree with this. I am not saying that section stacking exists one way or the other because it is hard to have any verifiable supporting evidence. However, with that caveat in mind, You are still graded against your piers in your section to compete for the few high marks allocated. In many classes out of a section of 80 + students, there was only about 3 As. So if you "stack" high value scholarship people all into the same section, they have to fight each other to be one of the 3 who get As and so on for A- B + etc. The end result is if you have a section with 70% of the people have scholarships, the majority's GPA will be watered down.

Class ranking is calculated by entire class, so the 3 sections of 80 people get all mushed together. If you were in an "easier" section with profs that gave more high marks with less competitive applicants, you could of had a lesser performance and still out rank people in the "tougher" section, thereby push them farther down and causing a larger portion of the "stacked"section to lose their schollies.

Just something to consider.

They put all the scholarship kids in the same section so they compete with each other for grades. Essentially, it ensures for the school that some of the kids will lose their scholarship. At least this is what I heard what stacking sections is.

Assuming what you're saying is correct, if one does not receive a scholarship, and gets placed in a section with non-scholarship kids who are probably less likely to work as hard, and probably have lower LSAT scores and GPAs coming in...it would be relatively safe to assume that one would have an easier time earning top grades, perhaps?

Went to Scholar's Day last week. I very enjoyed meeting the faculty. I am not so keen on the location or the facilities, but I did pay the first seat deposit since the school will be free for me.
