In with 1/2 tuition scholarship. I'll be there on the 3rd, I want to practice in the area and I'm interested to hear what McG has to say. See y'all there whom are visiting this Friday, and good luck to those still in their admissions cycles.

When I went to Legal Scholars Day last year, people wore a WIDE range of stuff. I wore business casual (slacks, blouse, close-toed shoes), but other people were in sweatshirts and jeans. You'll pretty much be fine in anything.LAFish wrote:So who's going to Legal Scholars Day this Friday? And what are you guys wearing... the admissions lady said business causal so I'm assuming a dress shirt and khakis right?

Guys is there another scholars day for those who are accepted around/after this one? I am waiting for my decision in the mail and I don't know if I can travel to Cali.

Could you please let me know if there are others at later dates? I would think so but I am trying to make sure, to determine if I should attempt to visit this friday.

There were definitely later dates. There was definitely at least one in March and April.tolson1 wrote:Could you please let me know if there are others at later dates? I would think so but I am trying to make sure, to determine if I should attempt to visit this friday.

In with 18,000 a year scholarship. Nice, but with 40,000+ tuition & 12,000+ living expenses, thats easily $100,000 in debt. Has anyone negotiated scholarships with Pacific-McGeorge?

This is what I have been thinking. I've also been trying to inquire if anyone has negotiated and I haven't gotten a response. Personally, I sent the dean of admissions and e-mail last Monday (1/23) and haven't received a response yet...tolson1 wrote:In with 18,000 a year scholarship. There wouldn't be any purpose for doing so: McGeorge doesn't use a grading curve.Dash41 wrote:Speaking of that, does anyone know if McGeorge stacks their sections?
Legal Scholars Day today was pretty cool, and it included what I thought was a neat feature: a panel of five current students answered questions with no faculty or staff in the room, and they seemed quite honest when asked for negative thoughts as well as positive ones.
I was also impressed with how few of the admitted students today were locals--we all know McGeorge is sort of a regional school, but there were students from everywhere, many with no ties whatsoever to Sacramento.
I have the numbers to do "better" and a couple "better" admits already, but I still might end up here. I know I wouldn't regret it if I did.

This is a misleading statement. The median GPA is around a 2.81. There is no forced curve on how many As, BS or Cs one must give, but there is pressure to curve to about a 2.8. These grade distributions are posted outside of records, take a look at the 1L classes. You will notice profs who give As also gives Cs and Ds, there are also a few socialist graders where there might be only 1 A- but only a couple Cs.der_saeufer wrote:There wouldn't be any purpose for doing so: McGeorge doesn't use a grading curve.Dash41 wrote:Speaking of that, does anyone know if McGeorge stacks their sections?
The curve is very much alive.

It would seem that it would still make it difficult for them to stack sections like some schools do with the intent of causing people to lose scholarships, though they clearly do give money with a top-1/3 stip to more than 1/3 of the entering class.

Re: Pacific-McGeorge c/o 2015 (2011-12 cycle)
I partially disagree with this. I am not saying that section stacking exists one way or the other because it is hard to have any verifiable supporting evidence. However, with that caveat in mind, You are still graded against your piers in your section to compete for the few high marks allocated. In many classes out of a section of 80 + students, there was only about 3 As. So if you "stack" high value scholarship people all into the same section, they have to fight each other to be one of the 3 who get As and so on for A- B + etc. The end result is if you have a section with 70% of the people have scholarships, the majority's GPA will be watered down.der_saeufer wrote:Noted, and thanks.Dman wrote:This is a misleading statement. Class ranking is calculated by entire class, so the 3 sections of 80 people get all mushed together. If you were in an "easier" section with profs that gave more high marks with less competitive applicants, you could of had a lesser performance and still out rank people in the "tougher" section, thereby push them farther down and causing a larger portion of the "stacked"section to lose their schollies.
Just something to consider.

As a current student, I can also say that they do stack. Another reason why I recommend negotiating your scholarship with Dean Barrett.

They put all the scholarship kids in the same section so they compete with each other for grades. Essentially, it ensures for the school that some of the kids will lose their scholarship. At least this is what I heard what stacking sections is.SplitLife wrote:Gokickrocks,

Re: Pacific-McGeorge c/o 2015 (2011-12 cycle)
Assuming what you're saying is correct, if one does not receive a scholarship, and gets placed in a section with non-scholarship kids who are probably less likely to work as hard, and probably have lower LSAT scores and GPAs coming in...it would be relatively safe to assume that one would have an easier time earning top grades, perhaps?Dash41 wrote:They put all the scholarship kids in the same section so they compete with each other for grades. Went to Scholar's Day last week. I very enjoyed meeting the faculty. I am not so keen on the location or the facilities, but I did pay the first seat deposit since the school will be free for me.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
