I'm starting to think this email is gonna go out to all of us at the same time.
Also, you never realize how many emails you get until there's one you're really waiting for.

Decision made, watch for e-mail.
I just got out of class, so I don't know when it changed. Maybe they are just sending them all out in a big bunch? I do know I'm going to be jumping every time I get a new e-mail...
Good luck everyone!

Question: Does anyone know what kind of scholarships Duke offers? Their website is very vague. It's like it's a secret.

Re: Duke c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I was going to ask if you had this in your email or just acceptances, because it doesn't seem clear from LSN. I thought scholarship offers would come with admittances, but that hasn't been the case thus far or maybe it is but no one's been offered money? I don't know. Anyone with more knowledge and experience?sdwhodat wrote:Question: Does anyone know what kind of scholarships Duke offers? Their website is very vague. It's like it's a secret.
If you look at LSN from last year though, there was a good number of people who got 90,000 offers, though it seems almost none in that range took it. Then there are some 81000/75,000 ones too. I think that is spread over 3 years. Some 67,500k, 30k, etc.

I remember a friend telling me that you had to apply for scholarship offers post-acceptance. Not sure about anything more than that, however.MumofCad wrote:I was going to ask if you had this in your email or just acceptances, because it doesn't seem clear from LSN. The e-mail said that they would send me the scholarship application forms early December and after I complete that (as early as January), my acceptance is "official" and I will receive my "official acceptance letter."MumofCad wrote:I was going to ask if you had this in your email or just acceptances, because it doesn't seem clear from LSN. Re: Duke c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
This is correct. You have to fill out a separate scholarship form that will be used for merit and (if you choose to include certain income/financial details) need-based aid. (Yes, Duke really does give out need-based aid). IIRC, scholarship notifications started coming (on a rolling basis) near the end of the year last year. And Duke tends to be pretty generous.Hawkeye Pierce wrote:I remember a friend telling me that you had to apply for scholarship offers post-acceptance. Not sure about anything more than that, however.
Congrats to everyone who was accepted; I hope you all will consider attending.

How generous is "pretty generous?" We talking $20,000 a year generous or full tuition (combination merit/need) generous?beachbum wrote:This is correct. Re: Duke c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Full tuition is gonna be tough to swing, but Duke does offer its full-tuition (Mordecai) scholarship to a small group of "top" applicants every year. Based on your profile stats, I wouldn't be surprised if you get an invitation for that. (I believe you have to interview for it, though don't quote me on that). Otherwise, as far as I can tell, Duke tends to be a little more generous than its peers (specifically MVP).sdwhodat wrote:How generous is "pretty generous?" With your stats, you'll get a substantial scholarship. Whether that scholarship is worth more than a smaller scholarship at, say, CCN is up to you. But I'm sure you'll have plenty of offers to compare.
And on a completely different note, two of my good buddies here went to Southern Miss. Hopefully we can roadtrip down there one of these days; seems like a pretty cool place.

Re: Duke c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
haha, I try to stay away from that argument these days. If people want to debate minute differences in schools and create arbitrary groupings, more power to them. But in the end, we're a non-HYS T14, just like the rest of CCNMVPNCG. I tend to put more emphasis on relative cost and personal fit, the latter of which deserves a lot more credit than it gets on TLS. (I know I'm much happier here than I would be at, say, Michigan).acadec wrote:You've been very helpful, so we'll let that one slide.beachbum wrote: its peers (specifically MVP).
But good luck to you all, and PM me if you have any specific questions. I'll be around from time to time (mostly when I'm sick of studying for property) to answer any general questions ya'll might have. Or you can use the "Duke 1L, hanging out on the Internet" thread.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
