I did mine in December and got a fee waiver in late Jan and was accepted late Feb. You can definitely hope!kulshan wrote:Does anyone know whether Columbia will do another round of fee waivers when the Oct. scores come out? I'm not sure why they'd give me one then when they didn't the first time, but I can hope!

Hi guys,
CLS 1L here. Good luck to all of you! It's amazing here.
That said, would anyone be interested in seeing more photos of the building/campus/anything? I am happy to go take some, and I know that when I was applying I had no idea what the inside of the building might look like or what the facilities were. The outside of JG really doesn't do it justice - the inside is very sleek and modern, and the upper floors are all rich wood and carpeting.
Let me know. Alternatively, if you have any questions feel free to PM me

I would love some pictures, thank you! Also, what is COL like for Columbia? Is rent the same as it would be for the NYU area?

On average, it's a good deal cheaper than NYU COL. I pay 825, all utilities included, on a nice, quite block.annyong wrote:I would love some pictures, thank you! Also, what is COL like for Columbia? Is rent the same as it would be for the NYU area?

That's awesome, definitely cheaper than NYU. Are you in a school dorm or did you find your own place?kwais wrote:On average, it's a good deal cheaper than NYU COL. I'm in columbia housing. finding your own place at 825 is extremely unlikely. but grad housing is pretty nice. I am a little further than most of my classmates, but the walk is nicefreestallion wrote:That's awesome, definitely cheaper than NYU. Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Yeah the COL estimate on the website is generally inflated, especially if you buy your books secondhand. The neighborhood is cheaper than the Village, and the rent is subsidized so it's also cheaper. I live in law school housing basically across the street from the LS in a massive 3-bedroom apt (with the biggest room) and I pay less than $1200/month in rent (everything included).
I think the savings more than makes up for the occasional cab ride to and from the more fun parts of town.

Woah that's awesome, thanks for the info! I have a friend at NYU and their rent prices kind of made me gag when I first heard it....so this is good news!

I didn't submit a supervisor letter because I only just started working full-time and it's only a 3-month, full-time internship... do I need a letter?

The instructions do say that if you're recently graduated, 2 professor letters are preferred, and I only graduated a year ago...

I was shocked because I got a letter from Columbia recently. But it turned out to be a letter from Asian student groups talking about diversity, the asian community, and inviting me to apply. Haha. Got excited for nothing, though I knew it couldn't have been good news so early

I got one from the Women's group on campus and I didn't even apply to Columbia. My husband said, "Hey! You got something from Columbia, now that's a name I recognize!" He gets a kick out of all the junk mail we get from random law schools these day. Man, there are a lot of law schools in this country.Curious1 wrote:omg you too.Hawkeye Pierce wrote:LOL I got the same exact letter. See, it's too bad they can't send me one about being Jewish, because that would probably cross a line somewhere. But I'd like to hear from CLS.Hawkeye Pierce wrote:LOL I got the same exact letter.
