i got a nice hand note. they briefly talked about how my past and u of L would make a great fit. Talked a lot about educational law and disabilitiesheisenberg_girl wrote:I got into UofL this week w/ 155 LSAT and 3.3 GPA. In-state for UG. Had a hand-written note on my acceptance letter about my thoughtful essay, inviting me to join the GLBT student group (but neither my personal essay nor my diversity essay were about being gay). Anyone else get a personal touch like that on the acceptance letter? I've been accepted elsewhere and no other schools have done that.

Yeah, that seems to be something they do because of the holistic appplication review they do. I should be getting my letter in this week, so I'm curious about what they will say. Plus I'm still curious about scholarship info.

You're LSAT was high enough. lol. Plus I'm sure the rest of your app was good. I'm beginning to think that people with decent numbers just half ass their applications, and at school like Louisville where they do a holistic review, they will straight up reject someone with good numbers and a crappy application.

Re: Louisville 2010 Applicants
Well, my meeting went fairly well I think. Not too much as far as "interview" questions; it was more of a chance to ask what I could have done/could do better to improve my chances. My numbers are fairly strong, but my soft factors didn't blow their doors off apparently.
I've seen people reference a "Why Louisville" letter. Does it = a LOCI? Pardon my ignorance.

it can be written like that. You want to explain why louisville is the best school for you, and why you will make louisville a better school.

Re: Louisville 2010 Applicants
I got placed on hold as well. 155/3.57. Went to U of L for undergrad and wrote a Why U of L letter.
I hate this. I got a scholarship to go to Chase but I'd still rather go here.

Re: Louisville 2010 Applicants
Gotcha. Since I already submitted a LOCI, I'm contemplating sending in some sort of addendum after my meeting this week, having learned some of the reasons my app wasn't viewed as "admit-able on the spot" LOL.northwood wrote:it can be written like that. I know pestering isn't the way to go, but I certainly don't think persistence can be a bad thing. Just got to walk that fine line between crazy and enthusiastic I suppose.

write this one, then let it go for a while. You dont want to come off as desperate or needy. Best of luck. If you want someone to look it over, im sure there are people who will give it an honest look before you send it in. I think mondays are good days to have it submitted, as there will be an entire week to look it over and respond to you.

Solid points. I think I need to remind myself that this isn't necessarily as urgent as my mind is making me believe...in terms of time anyway. They won't be looking at these apps for several weeks at least.
Also, is there any discernible difference between being on hold and waitlisted at UofL? Or do they just put everyone on hold?

Re: Louisville 2010 Applicants
Out of 42 applicants on LSN, they have accepted 12, rejected 13, waitlisted 4 and there are 13 pending. Random, I know, but I've been looking at it and wondering if there are more people getting rejected and waitlisted this year than in years before. Just looking at 08-09, there were only 11 rejections out of 61 applicants. While I am completely aware rhat LSN is a self selected sample and not representative of the applicant pool as a whole, it is still interesting to look at it. It just makes me wonder what might make this cycle different from others.

Re: Louisville 2010 Applicants
Yes, being placed on hold means that they are holding off on making a decision on your application, whether it be accept, reject, or waitlist. This has been an interesting cycle I think, because the application numbers are down, so I think that some of the schools are just not sure of how to react yet. Plus they want to make sure to protect their yield.LouEVille wrote:Solid points. Re: Louisville 2010 Applicants
Thanks for the clarification. It seems like certain schools use "hold" and "waitlist" interchangeably, but I was hoping UofL was not one of those. Not sure why I didn't think to ask the other day.Neidermeyer519 wrote:Yes, being placed on hold means that they are holding off on making a decision on your application, whether it be accept, reject, or waitlist. That's interesting that apps are down. I would have thought with a still somewhat sluggish economy that people would be heading back to school en masse.
And congrats on the scholarship!

Thanks everyone! Gonna try to negotiate for some more in a couple weeks, but I was super stoked to get that much. Can't beat 8,900 a year for law school. lol

+1 but I still laugh when you go on their website and it says proudly "We're number 3!"Neidermeyer519 wrote:Can't beat 8,900 a year for law school. lol

Just got home and finally looked through the packet from Louisville. I had a very sincere hand written note in there as well. I have to say, from my perspective, this has been the best school I have dealt with in this cycle.

Re: Louisville 2010 Applicants
Yea - I appreciated the note as well. I haven't received my packet (got returned to them for some reason) but they were nice enough to scan my admissions and scholarship letters to me so that I wouldn't have to wait another week or so. They have been very attentive!
I think a lot of schools are embracing the personal note thing - I've noticed on some of the other forums that others have appreciated that. They also seem to be trying to get very techy; I got a text message from a Dean which was pretty cool.

Got my packet today, but no scholarship whatsoever. Not a big suprise. The handwritten note was nice touch.

They come separately according to the admissions office. You can call and confirm you did get one but they won't tell you the amount...

Mine all came together. The scholarship letter was right behind the admissions letter.
