Looks like there probably is some, but there's also a lot of greens that are well above their 75ths. I'm guessing a kid from Texas with a 3.9/172 who submits a real generic app will be treated differently than a 3.9/172 from Boston who writes an optional essay.

Not really, they do seem to hate heavy splitters though.

Re: BU 2011 Applicants
I went complete on 11/8, so I probably have some waiting to do... but I still jump out of my seat each time I feel my phone vibrate!
EDIT: To those who have been accepted, were scholarship offers (or the time when scholarship decisions will be reached) mentioned over the phone?

Does that mean you would rather BU over w&m?HeavenWood wrote:The thrill from getting into W&M is wearing off... please let me in soon, BU!
I want to be admitted everywhere I applied but I don't think I would attend BU over w&m. Especially with the $ I was offered by W&M.

Just got my acceptance via email since I'm out of the country. First acceptance of my cycle. How exciting!

Re: BU 2011 Applicants
I want to work in Philadelphia; a BU degree is more conducive to my goals than a W&M degree (although if worst comes to worst and I don't get into anywhere better, W&M still wouldn't be a bad choice).Capitol A wrote:Does that mean you would rather BU over w&m?HeavenWood wrote:The thrill from getting into W&M is wearing off... please let me in soon, BU!

Sure. I can answer a few questions (1L in finals study mode so I won't be on here too much, but I'd be happy to at least offer some help)username99 wrote:Anyone here go to BU and interested in answering some Qs?

Is it true that BU's reputation for being cut-throat competitive is completely outdated?

Re: BU 2011 Applicants
Absolutely. The best outlines are always passed around, people are happy to share notes when others are absent from class, etc. Of course there is that underlying feeling of competition, but that would be present in any school that relies on a forced curve (which is pretty much every school). So yeah, I think thats a relic of the past.AHX2 wrote:Is it true that BU's reputation for being cut-throat competitive is completely outdated?

No prob. If you have any other Q's, def keep em coming. I'll be on the comp for about an hour, so ask away. I can help on any topic aside from job search/job prospects since I'm only 1L and don't have enough knowledge about it yet.AHX2 wrote:Awesome, thanks!

Penn, yes (but I'm not banking on an acceptance). Temple, not really. Since I have ties to the region, a BU degree would serve me much better; it's close enough to Philly and has a high enough rank that carries a fair amount of prestige.Capitol A wrote:Same thing I was thinking...Gemini Hopeful wrote:HEavenwood you wanna work in Philly? Simply put, what is it like to be a BU student? What are the important points?

Re: BU 2011 Applicants
Hmm, thats pretty broad, but I will try and give you an answer. Being a BU student certainly has many more pros than cons. The faculty is insanely good, and is right on par with the very best law schools in the country. We have a university-wide award every year for the best professor at BU. In both semesters of my 1L year, I get to take a class with a professor who has won that award. And they aren't just masters in their fields, but wonderful with the students. Myself and a group of students had dinner at our professor's house one night, which was a whole lot of fun.username99 wrote:Simply put, what is it like to be a BU student? The administration is also quite good. I honestly feel like, if there is anything the student body really wants, the administration will go out of their way to get it done. They treat us much more like adults than any undergrad administration, and they want us to be comfortable and happy here. And it really shows, in that the students are truly happy to be here. I visited a bunch of law schools before I applied. And I remember visiting BU and having random students go out of their way to share info about the school, help us out, talk about how much they enjoyed it, etc. My cynical mind thought that they were planted there by admissions. Yet I find myself doing the same whenever I see prospective students. At many law schools, I'd imagine that a large chunk of students just want to do their time, get their degree, and get out. But I really get the vibe that people at BU enjoy being here.
The social scene and schedule of events is really great as well. Every night there is some group hosting some event. And we also have a bunch of class-wide events like a harbor cruise, ski trip, "bar review" nights, etc. So whenever you put down the books, there is always some event where you can mingle with everyone outside of the law school setting.
To be as fair and balanced as possible, I think I should probably point out a few negatives that I can think of. The facilities are certainly a bit old and not particularly pleasing to the eye. But they are constantly renovating the inside and adding new comp lab areas/study spaces, etc. Again, if the student body wants it done, the administration gets it done. The facilities are sort of a neutral point for me. Its of course nothing I brag about to anyone. But at the same time, it has never been a detriment to my law school experience. Also, the law school is right in the middle of the undergrad campus and right next to the undergrad library. So we don't really get a chunk of the campus to ourselves. But again, these gripes are quite minor compared to the overwhelmingly positive experience I have had here so far.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
