I am if I don't have to work! I live in Tuscaloosa, though, so it's easy for me to get over to the law school whenever.

I'll be there. I only live a few hours away so it's an easy trip. Add in the free hotel and I'm there.

Re: University of Alabama Class of 2014
I got in in December with a $24,000 a year scholarship contingent on staying in the top 40% of the class. They're flying me down for admitted students weekend in a few weeks. This San Francisco girl has never been south of Virginia, so we'll see how that goes.
I'm coming in on the Thursday but LATE so I can get a half day in at work in the morning.

Those of you that interviewed for the Dean's Scholarship:
What did you wear? Suit or business casual?

I wore business casual (I'm a girl) but the other guys there that day all wore suits. I'd say business casual is much more occasion-appropriate, and (to me, at least) the suits were overdressed.tarakit wrote:Those of you that interviewed for the Dean's Scholarship:

(I got the scholarship, so I doubt what you wear matters too much.)

received the admittance phone call with 24,000/yr scholarship and fly-out offer!!! Super excited. Their admissions office is by far the most polite and friendly i've encountered so far.

I think Alabama might have forgotten my application. Its been "complete and ready for review" since late nov. Anybody else experiencing this? I saw another post like it farther down. Does the mybama status checker change when your app is in review doesn't seem like it, but I thought I'd ask?

I think it might be because you are at their median... Their median has risen by a lot the past few years, so they are probably only admitting people far above their median right now. They also have a program where they guarantee admission for certain undergraduates at UA, and the application for that isn't due yet, so they may be waiting to make sure they have enough spots in their class for those people. In other words, you are probably fine in terms of getting in, but you may still have to wait a while.amers73 wrote:I think Alabama might have forgotten my application. Does anyone know what the law student living budget is like at U of A? I can't find it on their website for some reason...

No, but as a UG at Bama, living expenses aren't too much. You can find a decent one bedroom apt for around $600. I live in a fraternity house, so it's a bit cheaper, but I have plenty of friends with nice apartments on campus. I spend about $1500 a semester after housing expenses. Hope that helps.buchy2009 wrote:Does anyone know what the law student living budget is like at U of A? I can't find it on their website for some reason...

I don't know where the official budget is, but COL is low. I pay $475/month in rent for a really nice condo (I have a roommate) but you can find places as cheap as $350. Food is cheap, too. I eat out with friends pretty often and don't spend very much per month. I don't really know what the other categories are, but it's definitely cheap across the board. I'd ballpark it for you, but I'm terrible with estimation.buchy2009 wrote:Does anyone know what the law student living budget is like at U of A? I can't find it on their website for some reason...
Edit - the $350 assumes a roommate. Not sure about living alone, so I'll say Albatross is right.

That's definitely $400/roommate. But yea - still pretty cheap.Redsgomarchingon wrote:looking at craigslist, I see 4 bedroom apartments for $400... wow. Definitely can't get that in LA lol
EDIT: And I'm surprised you're considering Bama with an acceptance to Gtown.
