Sorry to repost, but anybody? Is this most likely a "gauging interest" call? I'm not ready to commit, so...

well i haven't gotten a phone call and I'd love one haha
i got off two waitlists at other schools and they did leave a voicemail at first and when I called back they asked if i'm still interested and then when I said yes offered me a position BUT one of the schools offered me another deal for next year. I'd think it's a good sign but can't be sure
with that said, if you're not sure at this point, maybe withdraw give us all a chance too b/c it could be august 29 and I'd still be sure I'd accept a UPenn offer

This very well might happen. Not that I'm not interested, just not sure I'm interested for this year. Out of curiosity, did the school that gave you an offer for next year happen to be N?

Got a message from someone at the admissions office wanting to discuss my file. Anyone have any idea what this message is about? I never received the most recent waitlist update email and have to assume I'm in their next batch of releases. Are these calls ever bad? thanks in advance for any insight.

Anyone else get the email update? If they're full, what's the deal with these messages that people received yesterday? Sigh, upenn...why so cryptic?

Just got the email update as well, saying that they "historically" admit 5-7 people between now and the end of August. Wtf??? GW orientation starts August 18!!!
Seriously, how many people could there possibly still be on the waitlist? If 5-7 people are getting in, what are the odds??

I would venture to guess - from all the substantial cuts, admission offers, and withdrawals - the wait list is probably down to about 50 people (from an initial size of several hundred). This is, of course, blind speculation and is really of no value. However, I am inclined to think that at this stage in the cycle a ratio of 10 waitlisted candidates to 1 potential opening would seem to be somewhat reasonable.

I was in this boat until I was accepted at UPenn. Technically, classes start on September 7 (after Labor Day). It definitely puts everyone in a bind when they are committed at other schools. Good luck to those still waiting! I know a few people that were definitely called on the first day of class last year!

I got an email earlier this week asking if I was still interested. I told them I have a full scholarship with a stipend at another school and that I am buying a house in another city. I will accept an offer from Penn up to and until I sign for the purchase of the house. I estimate that will be next week. If I don't get an offer I'll drop from the waitlist. Good Luck to all.

Still haven't made an agreement on the house. I may end up renting. damn, I hope Penn calls asap.

Agreed, I hope Penn calls soon! Although Dean Post said in her most recent email that "historically" 5 to 7 seats become vacant during August, I am inclined to think that the supposed over-enrollment at both columbia and nyu may reduce this number to some extent, unfortunately.

Just wanted to say good luck everyone on the waitlist. Penn did not accept me until late August last year, so I can verify that they will still admit people this late in the game. Don't stalk the admissions office, but stay in contact with them, and let them know that you'll attend Penn if you're accepted (if this is true).
Good luck - hope to see you at Penn in a few weeks!

Just withdrew from the waitlist as well. Starting at GW on Wednesday. Good luck to anyone who's still on it!

Received a call from Bayrax late last week stating there is a seat and $$ available. It was too late for me (already started elsewhere,_ but hopefully still available for someone who held out as long as possible...

I talked to that guy Bayric several times this summer. He got so used to me calling that he didn't have to look up my file to tell me there was no spot and no hope. He just thanked me for calling again and wished me luck at UCLA.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
