Oh, goodness.
I'm not trying to persuade you, ok? I'm just trying to help by throwing my opinion out there. If you believe that what you're doing is best for you, have at it. Best of luck. I hope it does work for you. You have got to stop thinking of everything as a personal attack. And insinuating that I would not tell the truth or try to mislead you guys is just a bit insane. I wouldn't gain anything if every single one of you failed out.
And with that, the subject is hereby dropped in this thread.

Ever think it might be something you were doing? I guess it could be a coincidence that after 58 peaceful pages you were singled out unfairly.
I was offering my advice about what helped me in my first year. It just wasn't what you were doing and you decided to take it personally. I don't think it has anything to do with my reading comprehension being off.
I wasn't attacking you when I said alienating your classmates is a bad idea. It really is the worst thing you can do. I would advise you never let anyone know you were anywhere near this thread when you get to school. Your classmates will never stop talking about how you were the guy who blew up on TLS, insulting his classmates and the University.

Re: Univ of Georgia
Obviously principles are important. However, so is 1) picking your battles and 2) methods of argument. You could have responded in a more collegial and discussion-oriented manner. You could have, in lieu of responding, chosen to live to fight another day. The end result is that people already don't like you. Considering that this could render practical disadvantages to you (maybe people won't share notes/outlines with you when you're sick for one example), you lost. Your situation right now is worse than if you would have stated your point with less ferocity or chosen to stay quiet. Principles are important, but so is being pragmatic as well. Also, it's important to abstract from this one event. Do NOT make this a pattern of behavior if it already isn't. I have a feeling that you have a history of alienating others. This could be troublesome when relying upon colleagues and alumni networks from jobs and opportunities. In sum, you're in a worse situation today than you were two days ago. Consider that.JesusSmarmia wrote:Mark, all I can say is that I'm not going to pretend that up is down just so that some morons who think otherwise will like me. You gotta have principles! This all stems from my saying that it is possible to do some reading/prep. over the summer without burning out or confusing yourself irreparably. Everyone who has responded on that issue has blown what I've said completely out of proportion and imagined their own insecurities into my proposition. I'm not going to apologize, I'm not going to back down, I'm not going to pretend that they have a valid point.MarkRenton wrote:The one issue that you're not responding to is your constant effort to make your future colleagues hate you. Is this a concern to you?JesusSmarmia wrote:There you go, like everyone else who responded to me yesterday, putting words in my mouth. And somehow you manage to repeat things I myself said and act like you're telling me something I don't know. If your reading skills are representative then UGA Law really will be a walk in the park.missvik218 wrote:I can't wait to meet you next year.
For one, Jenny is already in law school. She is a 2L.
Second, you're in for a rude awakening if you think 1L is going to be a walk in the park because you read a few supplements your 0L summer. The reason people say not to prepare is that you have NO idea what your teachers are going to teach, and despite your belief you can learn everything and not get burnt out, it's definitely not true. It's also going to be a tough day when you realize getting a 4.0 in law school involves more than knowing everything about every topic. Trust me, nearly everyone at Georgia knows everything about every topic. It all comes down to how good you are at taking the tests.
Like everyone said -- it's not that the topics are difficult. It's the fact you have 6 classes all demanding something significant of you each and every day.
It would also be tremendously important to change your attitude. On the insane chance you actually do get a 4.0, no one will ever want to work with you if you act like this. Alienating your entire school on TLS before law school starts is not recommended. And people will talk about this and you -- it's law school.

Saying I made a personal attack on you is a pretty epic RC fail there, bud.JesusSmarmia wrote:Sorry, but you don't get to decide when things are done. All of you made personal attacks on me first. I was merely demonstrating that prepping before law school can be detrimental in some cases. ESPECIALLY if you are trying to learn that law, rather than introduce yourself to it.
Cleareyes and I had a pretty enlightening debate re: 0L prep in this thread.

Hey. Knock it off.JesusSmarmia wrote:Not really. Given that I know or know of lots of other people who worked before LS and claim that they feel like it helped them (for Christ's sake, read Arrow on TLS), your case isn't going to dissuade me. And you didn't say what the effect of your studying was on you. Why do you think you were worse off? How did it hurt you? How can you know you were no better off? Maybe you studied in the summer and still did badly...but that could just be you! So it doesn't really tell us anything, assuming you're telling the truth.

Actually, you were the first one to make personal attacks. I simply stated that because you are a 0L, your opinion on whether or not 0L prep was valuable was pretty worthless. It was not a personal attack. Telling me "go fuck yourself" because you were unhappy I pointed out that your opinion lacked utility was the introduction of personal attacks to the thread.JesusSmarmia wrote:goblue, perhaps I'm just dense, but I would like to make clear, I am not Maria Callas...not even female. This is really getting tiring...yes, I'm pretty ferocious when I'm insulted (even slightly). Your attacks have been ad hominem from the getgo and I responded in kind.
I repeat, the advice given by many of your to TheBigMediocre is stupid. All sorts of ideas have been attributed to me in this thread that are really off base (from what I think will be accomplished by studying to what I think of UGA). Those who have done this MUST either be idiots who can't read or liars who are willfully misrepresenting me.
I'm peeved bigtime and I'm not going to pretend I'm not. If you want to apologize I can bring it down a notch, but otherwise, GFY.
I realize that you seem to enjoy playing the victim, but I think it is time that we all just drop this.

Again, I am telling you to check your behavior. You are embarrassing yourself. Stop playing the victim. Your first post in this recent discourse was incredibly condescending, dramatic and elitist. Are you really that stunned that no one likes you? None of us have sympathy for you if you are going to be a douche then get pissy when people call you out on it.JesusSmarmia wrote:goblue, perhaps I'm just dense, but I would like to make clear, I am not Maria Callas...not even female. JesusSmarmia wrote:I don't agree. I read the primer and RAP wasn't easy, but I was able to teach it to myself. So often you hear people warning about trying to learn things before law school starts. It's bullcrap. This stuff is NOT intellectually difficult. There's simply a lot to know and you're asked to do analysis in a very short amount of time...that's where the difficulty lies. Nothing I've encountered so far can even remotely be called 'difficult'...including RAP. Now whether or not you need to learn it for your class is another thing altogether. But, worst case scenario, you've learned something you didn't have to learn...God forbid!
