Has anyone else accidentally logged into the status checker thinking they were logging into to the admitted students site?

I want to start by saying that I am a frequent poster on this site, but I created this screenname with special permission from the mods for this one purpose. I just got off the phone with Dean Zearfoss at Michigan because I had an error that I reported when I tried to log into the admitted students site that I emailed the office about asking what the problem was.

Dean Zearfoss decided to run a report seeing how many times people have logged into their admitted students site and found the names of anyone who has logged, especially those who have logged in more than 50 times. She told me a few things that were interesting

1) The site only updates once in the morning, so theres no reason to check more than once

2) They can see people who log into the admitted students site often and they have a negative view on people trying to "scan the system" and check the site

3) People calling in asking about getting into the site and if it means a decision is really pissing off their office and it is slowing them down in making decisions.

4) They wanted me to go on and tell the people of TLS not to log in anymore and that they will monitor the people who attempt to log in from now on.

The general statement the dean wanted me to send to people was please do not try to log into the site. They will monitor it and they do not appreciate it. She said that it is not how they want people to hear about their acceptance and they will try to stop people from hearing that way now.

This is not a flame and Helmholtz can attest that I am a frequent poster and have not attempted to flame anyone in the past. I thought it was necessary information to give to the board.

I really respect Michigan and Dean Zearfoss, but the above honestly baffles me. I know that the admitted students site thing had been going on last year, and nothing like this happened. Does is slow down their system? Why wouldn't they want students to find out through the status checker that they got in?

Why do they look negatively on people who are obviously really anxious and excited to see what their admissions status is? Just seems sort of counter intuitive.
