I enjoy the fact that, on the seat deposit page, where you list your address, the state is already pre-set to Texas.

They probably think I'm an 80 year old grandparent for sending in my deposit via snail mail/check.

Ummm...this couldn't be more understated. Don't email him, it's pointless - you will not get a response. Don't call him, it's pointless - he will not answer or return a phone call. You will have to go to his office during the 17 minutes per day that he is there, or you will never talk to him. I'm convinced he spends the rest of his time in a cave with Bin Laden.betasteve wrote: The financial aid guy is difficult to get ahold of.
This has been the only area in which SMU has really disappointed me. To be fair though, the financial aid guy is not a law school staff member, he handles financial aid for all grad students.

Hello all,
Looking for a roommate. Shooting for rent about $450 as close to campus as possible. Need someone with pretty laid back life-style. I also have a dog.
PM me if interested.

A quick search shows 2 BR Village apartments (The Meadow) for $800-$900/month.

I also am in the long waiting line of people who haven't heard back yet.. talked to a friend who is a 1L there, she said she didn't even get waitlisted until May 15th last year, bugged the hell out of them all summer and was finally let in the week before classes started.. talk about getting dicked around.
She was a reverse splitter like myself, so I'm not really liking my chances with the predicted 150% increase in applications this year. Luckily, I know that once I actually get to law school I will easily be able to outwork those who thought they would go to law school for shits and grins hoping to avoid the economy, which I would almost guarantee is going to be at least a quarter of the class if not more.. the benefits of having a 3.98 cum (knowing how to outstudy and outprepare 99% of the rest of your class and pretty much having to say go to hell to all you bastards who could answer retarded questions about monarch butterflies better than me).. damn you lsat, damn you for making me have to wait on these people..

Maybe this is old news but I just toured today and they said they weren't sending out any regular decisions until at least the end of April. Very disheartening, I have been less than impressed with admissions at SMU so far which is a shame because I really like the actual law school. I plan on depositing elsewhere, because deposit deadlines are WAY before then. Good luck to everyone!!
I haven't read the thread so if I am repeating anything, I apologize. So did Leraa misunderstand or did they straight up lie to her? This isn't the first time someone ITT said that they haven't admitted any RD students, which we all know is false. Maybe they aren't sending out any more decisions until after deposit deadline?utcris410 wrote:At ASD they did say they've admitted about 10% of applicants. They will probably admit a total of 20-25%, I believe is what they said. Correct me if I misquoted them.
Hey guys, I know this is old news, sorry to bring up "bad blood" but what I stated earlier is word for word what Stephanie Gonzalez in admissions told me. I realize there have been RD offers extended around the time when ED offers were given, but I asked her several different ways if she truly meant that any new decisions would be coming out at the end of April and every time she confirmed that that was correct. It was definitely not a misunderstanding on my part, I apologize for the delay, I don't check this often. I hope for your sake and sanity she was incorrect and they mail all you TLS'ers acceptances this week

Is it too late to send in a LOCI if I am in the bunch that should hear back at the end of April? SMU is a reach for me, but I really do want to go there! I actually didn't know you could/should do LOCIs until reading these boards, I guess I should have started posting/reading here sooner than now.

Re: SMU 2010!
Sorry if this has already been covered, but has anyone received their financial aid package from SMU? I keep checking Access but nothing is there.
This is also pretty dumb but...If I'm moving into an apartment in August I shouldn't count on loan money to pay for August's rent should I? From what I've read it looks like loan money isn't distributed until mid to late August.

The financial aid guy said at the ASD we wouldn't be getting anything until may since they are switching from private lenders to the govt.tinyone wrote:Sorry if this has already been covered, but has anyone received their financial aid package from SMU? I keep checking Access but nothing is there.

So, do ya'll think that the adcomm has even looked over RD applicants and kind of have an idea of who they will admit after deposits come in, or do you think they haven't even looked and are waiting after the deposit deadline to start reviewing RD applicants?

Re: SMU 2010!
Pure speculation, but my guess is that they have reviewed apps and are just waiting to see how many seats open up due to lack of deposits before they send out a wave of decisions. Of course, this theory hinges on my earlier theory that they received an insane amount of ED applications this year compared to prior years.
Edit: originally said RD when I meant ED

Here's hoping that you're right with your prediction and that they'll send out a big new batch of acceptances (and maybe some scholarship $$...) in the next week or so

+1 If I dont hear back by the end of April it looks like I'll be off to Houston. It's a fine institution but in my heart SMU is where i've always wanted to go.

I was just curious about student loans through the school, I was given scholarship money (20,000/year) and I've already submitted my FAFSA (before April 1st, so I have priority consideration), but I'm not entirely clear on how the award amount works.... for example, does the school usually award enough in loans to cover the cost of admission? What are the award amounts based on? I'm pretty clueless on this issue, any insight would be appreciated.

Re: SMU 2010!
Anyone can borrow up to $20,500 made up of subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans. You can borrow the difference between the $20,500 and total cost of attendance through Grad PLUS loans.Saurus wrote:I was just curious about student loans through the school, I was given scholarship money (20,000/year) and I've already submitted my FAFSA (before April 1st, so I have priority consideration), but I'm not entirely clear on how the award amount works.... for example, does the school usually award enough in loans to cover the cost of admission? How long once the FAFSA is submitted to hear back?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
