Well yeah, you think if I could code or be an engineer I would be on this goddamn forum 24/7? Lol. But I can't. So here we are. I just feel like most job sectors are the same in that you're not terribly happy and/or well off unless you're at the top of your industry, except maybe engineers/computer engineers. Like maybe if we were baby boomers, this would be an easier task. But in our current generation, it's really difficult to get to a job where you are happy/not underpaid. So my attitude is, if I can get to law school with little to no debt, and land a job where I can make more than I would if I just stayed where I am with just a bachelor's degree, then why not? Hope that makes sense.

Well, did anyone catch Ken Bone's AMA on Reddit last night? He used his real Reddit account and ppl saw some of his old comments on a preggo-porn sub. His comment: "Beautiful human submarines". I lol'd at least.
lol I did see the AMA. not the preggo-porn stuff tho. can't say I'm shocked tho, I mean what sort of person is STILL undecided in this election?
The type of person that comments on porn subReddits lol

Quite well, I may add. You and smaug are, how you say, "on fleek?"
real talk, smaug is right
most people are gonna be underpaid or unhappy
it's just something you gotta accept in the legal profession
i am fully prepared for a life of poverty and depression as long as I can help people who need help
here's an existential Q for you, henny.

I'm not sure if you are spiritual or have a religious faith, I don't get the vibes that you're traditionally religious (altho I've made false assumptions about you before heh?)

why do you want to help people?

(I ask because I also want to do PI and help people and lately I am really trying to figure out why that is, given my wavering spiritual/religious beliefs)

ETA I know it's a very complicated and atheists and agnostics and everybody and anybody can have ethics/morals/blah blah disclaimer.
Going off of your disclaimer, I don't really think the desire to help others comes from a religious standpoint as often as it does from a moral one, or perhaps even just knowledge that there are injustices being done and that you have potential to stop some of them. That's part of my interest in it. The other part of it is I don't know enough black lawyers  But no, seriously, the justice system has such a huge impact on black communities and yet, there's not a substantial number of black lawyers, judges, etc. I think it's easier for me to be part of a change I want to see rather than just saying "HEY! WE NEED MORE BLACK LAWYERS AND JUDGES! WE NEED REPRESENTATION THAT LOOKS LIKE US!" and I'm all about the idea that black children need to have representation in all career fields so that they know that they are just as able as their white counterparts to hold those positions.
This is totally awesome

I'm now at the gym and am done ruminating, but I just wanted to give you some appreciative snaps

Very true. Well this Friday has been pretty boring n shitty but I think you brightened up the thread by making us think to ourselves "hey at least I didn't get a speeding ticket today". For that, I thank you.

Funny story...

My boyfriend had drinks with his best friend and his best friends new girlfriend tonight. She told him she had a 3.9 gpa and a 177 LSAT score but was waitlisted at Harvard because she went to a small college (whattt) and it was a bad admissions year.

She also talked about how she applied to Suffolk and thought it was a really good school. If she's telling the truth (big IF), can you imagine the adcomms at Suffolk when a 177 rolled though?

"What the fuck do we do?"
"I don't know...I've never seen this before"

I wonder how likely it is that someone would get dinged just because they went to a small college...

I think its all perspective. My brother worked for IBM, hated it. Girlfriend's brother worked for Tesla, quit after 2 years cause he hated it. Both were engineering jobs.

I studied mechanical engineering and out of around 140 people in our class I think only 40 took up actual engineering jobs in the end, and it was roughly the same with the years above us.

I think there is the grass-is-always-greener mentality in play, but it is also helped by the stereotyping of engineers and programmers as introverted, nerdy, technical types - where as banking/consulting/accounting jobs tend to be more glorified. Those more extroverted may be driven away simply because they think they don't fit into the engineering stereotype, which further consolidates that stereotype.
