i have a crunchy Subaru-driving granola type friend who's a full-stack developer and he lives alone with his dog in his $400k home at age 25 and is very happy and works from 2pm to 9pm and that sounds pretty fucking cushy

ETA I know it's a very complicated and atheists and agnostics and everybody and anybody can have ethics/morals/blah blah disclaimer.But no, seriously, the justice system has such a huge impact on black communities and yet, there's not a substantial number of black lawyers, judges, etc. I think it's easier for me to be part of a change I want to see rather than just saying "HEY! WE NEED MORE BLACK LAWYERS AND JUDGES! WE NEED REPRESENTATION THAT LOOKS LIKE US!" and I'm all about the idea that black children need to have representation in all career fields so that they know that they are just as able as their white counterparts to hold those positions.

I think its all perspective. My brother worked for IBM, hated it. Girlfriend's brother worked for Tesla, quit after 2 years cause he hated it. Well yeah, you think if I could code or be an engineer I would be on this goddamn forum 24/7? Lol. But I can't. So here we are. I just feel like most job sectors are the same in that you're not terribly happy and/or well off unless you're at the top of your industry, except maybe engineers/computer engineers. Like maybe if we were baby boomers, this would be an easier task. But in our current generation, it's really difficult to get to a job where you are happy/not underpaid. So my attitude is, if I can get to law school with little to no debt, and land a job where I can make more than I would if I just stayed where I am with just a bachelor's degree, then why not? Hope that makes sense.
I studied mechanical engineering and out of around 140 people in our class I think only 40 took up actual engineering jobs in the end, and it was roughly the same with the years above us.TAD wrote:I think its all perspective.
