Are all the decisions emailed and/or snail mailed?
That is to say, is there any reason for me to check my status checker, which is Complete?

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
In 2012 I interviewed at a PhD program at Columbia in the sciences. At the end of the day one of the administrators was thanking us for our time and mentioned that if Columbia was our top choice, we should submit a letter to their offices directly to let them know. They hinted that they'd pull the right strings and it would increase our chances of getting in. Blatant yield protection.
Its an anecdote and may have nothing to do with CLS, but hearing about these holds reminded me -> At least you know some departments engage in it.
Hopefully the law school fears your moxies, and I bet you guys are getting killer offers all around.
Good luck!
p.s. I see the guy above asking about decisions. Mine was e-mailed, but I was also called before. I applied jan 8 and received the call on feb 4.

There is no reason to check the status checker, they do not update it.ub3r wrote:Are all the decisions emailed and/or snail mailed?

ITT: Columbia sends its regards.
I went through the c/o 2017 thread and the first held admittee received her decision on 4/15. But almost all held applicants were put on reserve, including definite YP victims. Guys, I'm not very optimistic about this.

It's almost funny. "Oh, you've been waiting forever? Ok, well throw you a bone and email you to wait some more until this day."nickhalden wrote:ITT: Columbia sends its regards.

And then that day finally comes: "Eh here's another email telling you to wait indefinitely."

Ugh, I may not even to a LOCI if I'm looking at sticker if I get in. I'm poor enough to get some aid at HYS, but I'd REALLY rather go to Columbia and not be drowning in debt...LawBron James wrote:It's almost funny. "Oh, you've been waiting forever? Yeah, looks like he's right. Not sure there was even one person in that wave that got accepted.kadyevna wrote:is this true? someone verifies this plz? why do you do this to me dear columbia (qwertyTLS wrote:nooooonickhalden wrote:I went through the c/o 2017 thread and the first held admittee received her decision on 4/15. Ugh, that's annoying. What's the point of even writing a LOCI then?LawBron James wrote:Yeah, looks like he's right. Held and actually okay with it, seeing as I'm pretty significantly below median in LSAT and GPA. Was honestly expecting an auto-ding. I'll be writing an LOCI because I feel like I'd be foolish not to, though I'm accepting of the fact that admission is unlikely. Still, one can hope.

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but given the fact that this hold pool seems more qualified (and maybe a bit bigger?) on average than last year's, perhaps we're being held for a different reason and thus should expect slightly different results.LawBron James wrote:Yeah, looks like he's right. Held today as well.
median>GPA>75th, LSAT<25th
I guess I am going to write the LOCI, but going to ASW at Berkeley and it might just make up my mind...

That floors me. Two other applicants on lsn with my exact(ish) numbers got held recently. No idea what the rationale is here.ThePinkRanger wrote:I was also held last night. 75<GPA, 50<LSAT<75.

Yeah.... I'm pretty sure I'm a YP. Not sure what would happen if I wrote an LOCI, but I'm also not sure I would choose Columbia over my other options anyway. So, even if I'm unreasonably bummed about this, the fact of the matter is they made a smart move on my app. Doesn't mean I don't want to take a shot.Indy16 wrote:That floors me. I saw two people get acceptances: April 15 and April 16. Then a ton of reserves. It looked like most of those were YP as well, and I think most had written a LOCI. Suffice to say: I'm not optimistic at all. I'll write a LOCI, but I'm not holding much hope.LawBron James wrote:Yeah, looks like he's right. Do we have anyone here who received substantial scholarship money? Applying this upcoming September, first choice school.

From a quick look I think most of these were double 75ths, but a good number of the holds yesterday were double 75ths. I don't know what to take from it.

No word since December. I can easily see them sit on me until April and then tell me I'm on the waitlist and should wait some more.
