In! First acceptance of the cycle so far, so definitely some great news. Interviewed on the 16th, in case anyone was curious.

ummm i wldnt bother them at this point. i can tell you this: many people with withdraw in the next weeks,Dulman wrote:+1Uschoolqb10 wrote:Still at Application Documents Received since 10/23. Borderline numbers, but not so borderline to the point of not hearing anything for 3 months.
I called the admissions office a few weeks ago and spoke to Naomi who told me that my application was sent to the committee for review a while back.
Anything I can do to maybe get the ball rolling?

I'm confused, why does everyone point out WUSTL's placement in NYC? Their employment numbers indicate just 10% of the class, do more people land jobs there after the first 9 nine months or something?

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
o thats just in comparison to "other" law schools that i applied to. my school list consists of all regional schools. i didn't apply to any "national" schools. so for me, its a chance, however small, at nyc (not big law). also, it has the off campus interviews there + clinic at nyc = chance to network like crazycalawgrl wrote:I'm confused, why does everyone point out WUSTL's placement in NYC? maybe for others who hv applied to t14 schools, it'll be totally different from my attraction to wustl

I mean, 10% is a large amount for a non-T14 not close to NYC.calawgrl wrote:I'm confused, why does everyone point out WUSTL's placement in NYC? Their employment numbers indicate just 10% of the class, do more people land jobs there after the first 9 nine months or something?

This plus self-selection. More people than that could get NYC or do get NYC offers and just don't want to live/work there or also get biglaw offers in a geographic region they prefer to NYC and opt for that instead. I for one would do some other kind of work if my only biglaw option was NYC.scottidsntknow wrote:I mean, 10% is a large amount for a non-T14 not close to NYC.calawgrl wrote:I'm confused, why does everyone point out WUSTL's placement in NYC? I bet there is more of this than people would think. Do we have a ton of people here from both coasts? Yes. We also have a lot of people here from the Midwest who just wouldn't move to NYC for 150K.

I highly doubt there are many people turning down offers from NYC biglaw without other offers to take. Are there people who could go to NYC but choose to stay here? Absolutely. But I think it would be highly reckless to not do the New York interview program and to omit NYC firms from your mass mailing if you have top grades. When your options are $175k starting base + bonus or possible unemployment with an upside in the $50k range, you're probably going to take the $175k. Trust me: if you strike out you'll wish you had sought out every possible interview in any conceivable market, because you do not want to end up looking for a job as a 3L.LET'S GET IT wrote:This plus self-selection. Just applied and received the e-mail with a link to the "applicant status check tool", but it just sends me to the "apply.law.wustl.edu" site...no applicant status check tool to be found. Although it's very possible that I'm just missing it somewhere, but it doesn't look like it. Where exactly do you find this tool? I have the user id and password from the e-mail as well.

At least when I applied (2012), they didn't really update the status checker.

Thanks - it says I navigated to that site in error though (invalid entry point). I'll just reply to the original e-mail and ask for a direct link.LawsRUs wrote:try hereoshberg28 wrote:Just applied and received the e-mail with a link to the "applicant status check tool", but it just sends me to the "apply.law.wustl.edu" site...no applicant status check tool to be found. I'm sure you are right. Doesn't really matter much to the point I was making so I guess poorly worded on my part. Should have just said that more than 10% of the class has option/s in NYC, just some take offers elsewhere.hoos89 wrote:I highly doubt there are many people turning down offers from NYC biglaw without other offers to take. Could you please explain why st louis market would be difficult for out-of-towners? I did notice that lots of job openings here went to slu grads.
hoos89 wrote:It depends on who you are (diversity, IP, ties, etc.). The better your grades, the more markets will open, but no I wouldn't necessarily say that NYC is the only viable option. California is possible with grades and ties; St. Louis (although quite difficult for out-of-towners) is still possible; Chicago (although an all-around difficult market) is possible; and I do know a few people who ended up at big firms in DC. NYC is just the best/safest bet if you have the grades. That's true at pretty much any school with halfway decent biglaw placement, though.

Not exactly a fan of NYC, but definitely good news!

I am also pretty sure my class (current 2L's) are higher than 10% in NYC.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
St. Louis has an inferiority complex. Firms here believe that given the option to leave for a bigger city a year or two after you come to work for them, washu grads will usually leave. So for instance say you are from NY. It's damn near impossible to convince the firms here that given the chance, you won't go back. Also, they have apparently been burned countless times by washu grads saying they want to be here long term and then jumping ship the first chance they get.robert88 wrote:Could you please explain why st louis market would be difficult for out-of-towners? SLU grads generally won't have those options, so they are the safer hire. And after years of this belief, a huge chunk of the power players in the legal field here (think judges, us DA's, even to a lesser extent partners at firms) are SLU grads and like to help their own.
