Is to miss the FR boat to meet certain doom?

Not at all. But given my 3.7 gpa, I think I'm either going to FR or be dinged.

<------ 3.4x and accepted. Stay positive. Berkeley might decide they like you for a number of reasons.

I know Berkeley is competitive, but wouldn't you assume "176; 3.85" not in yet is a yield issue? Honestly this process is so weird.

I am under FR after a 24 hour delay; better than a rejection, but can't help feeling like somehow there's something I should have done to get myself over the finish line to "admit" in the last day! FR, be kind...

Berkeley doesn't get enough credit for actually being holistic. More so than Stanford IMO.

Not much of a pattern here: http://berkeley.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1112/

I agree with the poster above. I don't think Berkeley is particularly concerned with YP. If they want you and think that you will be a good fit then they'll admit you.

If they did "yp" those numbers, I think it would be because they don't anticipate that Berkeley would be a fit holistically, not merely in anticipation that the applicant is bound to attend YSHCCN simply because his/her numbers are strong enough to gain admission.

I'm curious to see how Berkeley's attitude this cycle is going to affect their rankings next year. It seems like Penn and UVA are more concerned than ever about letting in above-medians only, whereas Berkeley has gone more rogue than usual. It will be interesting to see if they're all at 7 next year.

Examples of how Berkeley has gone "more rogue" this cycle? Most of what I ever see on here are 3.8+/170+ types getting in.

Agreed. There have been some exceptions (myself included) but I feel like Berk knows that if anyone wants to practice in SF/CA then they have to either get into Stanford or go with Berk, or hope to be in top 25% (?) at USC/UCLA. They have the upper hand since they're in such a competitive market. (Could be wrong, but UVA doesn't really stand a chance against HYS in DC, its market, and Penn is the only one in Philly, which doesn't seem all that sought-after). Just my .02. Probably why they give so little $, too- they know people will pay sticker for that opportunity.

The fact that I got in quickly to B and got WL at the other two may be influencing my opinion, but they have been admitting significantly more <170 applicants this cycle than VP. This is especially notable, I think, since most other schools have been turning less holistic with the drop in applicants.

At first blush this seems to support BigZuck's argument.

Not to play devil's advocate (LOLZ IM GONNA BE A GUNNER) but I always wonder if there are accepted students out there that are below medians/balancing out TLSers high numbers and aren't aware of TLS/LSN. Like some happier, internet-free alternate universe where these people have real hobbies and social lives.

Boom email.
Dear Jaqen,

The Committee will begin deliberation on your application on January 25. We anticipate a final decision will be reached on or around February 15.

Thank you for your patience.
