First, let me apologize for the lengthy delay in getting back to you. We now have a very good process in place for reviewing these kinds of comments and I should be more timely in responding as a result.
Offers did not go out over the winter break, but rest assured that we picked up right where we left off and decisions have been going on in a consistent fashion since January 3.
If you’ve not heard from us, it is indeed appropriate to send in a letter of continued interest. While the primary reason of this letter is to show us that you remain interested in SLS, it also shows me that you are an active and engaged participant in this process. Many applicants take the approach of “I’ve done my part and now I just need to wait it out” or “I’ve met all the application requirements and I’ll just sit back and wait for SLS to do their part.” Fair enough. This approach works. However, is it a bad thing to stay a bit more engaged? You just need to exercise some good judgment, though, and decide how much is enough versus becoming a pain.
This has come up before in discussion. She's also been interviewed before saying that unless you have a special circumstance or something really different has happened in the past few months, then sending a LOCI won't do much. So who knows what her actual viewpoint is on LOCIs.
Ah well, and there I was thinking I answered a timeless question. Guess I should spend MORE time in this thread...

Damnit. To write the LOCI, or not to write the LOCI.

I'm doing it today.

I really don't think it will make a difference this late in the game. Decisions will be out in 1-2 weeks, but it's your call.

I probably won't do it. But self-loathing is on the up n' up after said decision.

Probably because decisions are already overdue in comparison to previous years. There's only so much they can drag on this torture.

Also, their deposit deadline is in 6 weeks. So the sheer amount of time remaining is getting smaller and smaller.

Judging by their history, Stanford makes their final accept/reject/WL decisions in the end of March/early April.

Seems like there's a ton of people on LSN who received decisions at the end of April last year... mostly WL, some Reject. Last acceptances went out late March/early April, though.

Just wanted to ask, is this an odd cycle for Stanford? What has been up with the delay?
Also, is it worth it to send in another LOR?
The waiting game is killing me! I just want to find out.

I don't think this cycle has been particularly odd. This delay is common. They admit a few people early March, then make the rest of the admits in late March/early April.
I really don't think a LOR would make much of a difference this late in the game. I doubt anything would matter unless you did something big (publication, big scholarship, etc).

I agree with you generally, but it seems like Stanford hasn't really admitted anyone on LSN in early March. I'm not sure whether that's a reflection of fewer people using LSN, LSN not being representative of the general applicant pool, or Stanford actually being slower making decisions. It seems like there are quite a few early submitters who haven't heard anything. I guess they're due to release a bunch of decisions in the next 2- 2.5 weeks?

There's a c/o 2015 admitted students Google group (lol, I know). All admits are invited to join, but they have to be approved by the administrator first. The group has fewer than 100 members right now, and unless a lot of admits decided not to join the group or are still pending approval, this seems way too few at this point in the cycle.

What are the odds admits would know about the site?

Basically everyone who's logged into the admitted students website (whose link is provided in the acceptance letter) would know about the Google group because there's a big link to it on the front page.

But how many people on the internet have Google Plus? 100?

Actually, you don't need G+ to join the group--only a Google account (i.e. gmail).

That is a relief. Maybe I will send Dean Deal a LOCI explaining that while I don't have Google Plus, I have Gmail, so I would be able to access the group.

I submitted in late October and not a peep since, is it safe to say that I am in the unofficial hold group?
