I think they're waiting until they have a certain number of withdrawals before they start to admit again. It would make sense to do it in rounds. Say they have 30 withdrawals so they admit 30 more people and then 15 of those withdraw and they get another 15 withdrawals out of an older group, so they admit 30 more people - it's just easier than doing them as they come in.

With that said, I want to go and I hope they admit me, but I hope I don't miss financial aid deadlines. I am worried about not getting full loans, but I since I filed my FAFSA before March 1st, I'm okay. This wait is truly agonizing though.

That sounds more like a waitlist. You are probably right though. I hope that doesn't mean we have to wait until seat deposits are due thoughHOPEFORCHANGE wrote:I think they're waiting until they have a certain number of withdrawals before they start to admit again. Re: Pittsburgh 2011
It sort of is, but I and the other people posting today have not been formally held or waitlisted yet and the waitlisted people have to wait until after everyone who was actively considered and accepted until the very end withdraw or put down a deposit. I mean, if 800 or so people are accepted each year and 200 or so attend, they know what they're doing and even then, some people get off the waitlist. So, I am glad I am still an active consider. Also, if you look at LSN, a lot of people get in now through the beginning of May who weren't waitlisted.

Law schools accept way more students than they have room for with knowledge that a lot of them will not accept. 20 people withdrawing does NOT = 20 more people being admitted or anything even close.

Ok. Then maybe they're reviewing a bunch of apps at once right now.

I suggest calling...a lot. My girlfriend called non-stop last year and they got so tired of her calling they just told her she was accepted over the phone.HOPEFORCHANGE wrote:Ok. Then maybe they're reviewing a bunch of apps at once right now.

They don't pick up when I call. Also, what questions did your gf ask when she called? Did she have median numbers or above median numbers? You made me laugh though.

Re: Pittsburgh 2011
She was a touch above median on both and she just kept asking "Do you know the status of my application? When should I expect to hear?" along with a few things about how much she liked Pitt and how she has a lot of acceptances from other schools but doesn't want them because she wants Pitt.

The problem with that, if I'm correct, is that Pitt didn't have a status checker last year and now they do.

Re: Pittsburgh 2011
Also, do you know what a good time of the day to call is? I attempted to call them a few times in February before my application went UR because I was worried that they didn't have everything. No one ever picked up. I will call and ask them when they expect to release some decisions because I will have to pay some other law school a deposit of $200 on April 15th if I do not hear from them. I do not want to waste money, because like your girlfriend said to them, I really want to go to Pitt.

current students? How would you describe the atmosphere ( cut throat- laid back, in between the two)? Would you choose Pitt again if you could go back in time? why or why not??

Re: Pittsburgh 2011
The atmosphere is actually pretty laid back and everyone, for the most post, is very friendly. The horror stories you hear, like people ripping pages out of books, just don't happen here. We definitely do have gunners in our class but other than that, I really love the atmosphere. I would definitely choose Pitt again if I could go back in time. Last year, I was deciding between Rutgers Newark and Pitt... Rutgers seemed to be more of a commuter school, whereas the students at Pitt generally all live in the same neighborhoods surrounding the school. It's nice that I can walk to a lot of my friend's apartments. I easily made a really close group of friends and couldn't be happier. Pitt Law is also housed within the undergrad campus, so the school still has a very collegiate, school spirit kind of feel, if that makes sense. For example, yesterday all you saw were people everywhere celebrating St. Patty's Day and going crazy over March Madness. Sometimes it's just nice to get away from super studious law school peeps and head across the street to the undergrad bars. Yesterday I certainly enjoyed being able to take a break after class and heading to the bar down the block before heading back to the library to write my appellate brief all night long.northwood wrote:current students? is it me or does Pitt take much longer on things than everyone else? They received my app 1/25 and I wasn't under review until 2/17! I wonder if i'll receive a response this month at all at this rate.

Well, they haven't decided on anyone in a few weeks (or so it seems from what people are posting online). I have the same UR date as you and haven't heard anything. Northwood mentioned something about the ABA visiting soon and that delaying some financial aid mailings, so perhaps that is why they haven't released decisions lately. Who knows. Between now and the beginning of May is all I am expecting in terms of timeframes for a decision back.

My biggest concern is that I'll have to put a sit deposit at another school that I won't attend if they accept me at pitt

Same here. Waste of money. But, as I always say, that's when you get something - when you prepare for the worstcase scenario. e.g. If you have the most expensive auto insurance, you will never use it.

Re: Pittsburgh 2011
I don't know much about the 2L OCI process. But when looking for summer jobs, I applied to a few places through "Symplicity", which is run by career services. I think almost every law school uses the same system, but I believe it's career services that sets it up. Anyhow, I got 3 or 4 on campus interviews through that process, including the job I accepted.northwood wrote:Current students- can you shed some insightg to the oci processs? job search? thanks!
It wasn't a bid process, just a submission of materials and they let you know if you get an interview. Symplicity didn't have a ton of jobs posted throughout the semester, and I don't know many others that secured gigs through it, but it worked for me (and Barbell).
One thing that surprised me about the process was that there were no "call backs". All but one of my interviews made the decision based on that single interview. So if you go through the process, don't expect a screener, you'll probably meet with the person that makes the decisions on the first try.
For 2L OCI, you can look on NALP for the list of firms that come to interview. However, I talked to a partner at a "mid-sized" firm (which was regional, with more than 100 attorneys), that said they are coming to do OCI in the fall and they are not listed on NALP. So there may be more firms that come that are not listed, but they aren't the typical "BigLaw" firms that one might expect.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
