Re: NYU c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I think 170-174 becomes extremely valuable given the surrounding bands are way down. Schools with medians in the very high 160s (i.e. NYU) are competing for less folks in the 160s, and thus have to dip into the 170s to maintain the balance. Same deal with schools like Columbia and Chicago competing with HYS for some number of the 175+, especially Columbia with their 75th at 174. HYS I assume always have their pick of the litter, but honety wouldn't be surprised if medians are stagnant or dip even within T6. If columbia is intent on keeping it at 174, I could see their lower 25th gpa dipping even more than the ~3.5 it's currently at.Full disclosure I got a 174 so this could be hopeful speculation.
Also think it's AMAZING news for 175+ folks who might otherwise be weaker candidates because of low gpas or whatever. T6 HAVE to pick up a really big chunk of these folks to maintain the range. Or just cut down class size I suppose.

So far, as part of that last group you are talking about, I've seen only the opposite in my cycle. Nothing good at all haha. Then again, us splitters might be the people who are left for last when making a decision. Not sure.dg1090 wrote:I think 170-174 becomes extremely valuable given the surrounding bands are way down. Re: NYU c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
As a splitter with a 173, I certainly hope this is the case. I think us splitters will still have to wait longer than a "traditional" applicant, as schools will have to figure out what their numbers look like after the first few waves of admission to get a better idea of how many splitters they need to take on. Anecdotally, I have slightly outperformed what my expectations were heading into the cycle. Still waiting to hear back from most of my reaches, though, so we'll see.dg1090 wrote:I think 170-174 becomes extremely valuable given the surrounding bands are way down. Going back to the LSAT discussion, it looks like the only scores within that 170 - 174 band that actually increased this cycle are 170s. Good news for those of us with anything above that.

Hm. I wonder how these score bands look when you consider race. I know someone in another thread was talking about the decrease in URM apps, AAs being down the most, this cycle. Am curious if the decrease in URM apps + the decrease in high scorers will make for a better cycle for URMs who score mid-160s+.PDX4343 wrote:Going back to the LSAT discussion, it looks like the only scores within that 170 - 174 band that actually increased this cycle are 170s. Don't know whether Dec takers are considered. Probably not. I'm pretty sure Spivey tweeted earlier today saying essentially the same thing. He wasn't sure if they were, but they probably weren't. Although the data was released today, I believe he said it's accurate as of Dec. 30th.hellohalo wrote:Don't know whether Dec takers are considered. Probably not. Yeah, I have mixed feelings about my splitter cycle so far. In at 3/8 and no WL or rejects yet, but I applied really early and it's been radio silence in most cases. Maybe the drop will mean good news, just late in the cycle. Ugh, so sick of waiting.Thelaw23 wrote:So far, as part of that last group you are talking about, I've seen only the opposite in my cycle. Yeah sadly just speculation. This is all a black box anyways who the hell knows. Good luck! Hopeful you'll get good news in due time.

At least for this cycle, I'm a splitter and NYU was the first school by far to get back to me. Even the more splitter friendly Columbia only just gave an interview. Radio silence on everywhere else I applied to.sorence wrote:Yeah I've got some splitter friends from previous cycles and each ay that NYU was one of the last to get back to each of them.brinicolec wrote:My bet is (most) splitters won't hear back until later in the cycle because they're trying to find all of the ppl that can help with both mediansgovlife wrote:Yeah, I have mixed feelings about my splitter cycle so far. The more I think about it, the more it seems just very random to me. If your file gets dropped on an administrator that's on top of her stuff, great, you'll hear rather quickly. If you get one that's a bit lazy or super busy, sorry its going to be a waiting game.

Am UR2 as of today. Coincidentally, last night/early this morning I tweeted @NYUlaw with nothing more than "adcomm, if you're reading this: plz."
(there's definitely no correlation but I still find it funny)
Edit: I'd been UR since 11/21.
