I just went UR on the status checker! Does Duke usually send out decisions before the 10th day, or do they usually take the entire 10 days?

Quick question-- about how long are the optional essays expected to be? Like a page or two double-spaced?

It took the entire 10 days for me, and it looks like most others had to wait the entire 10 days as well.

Ah, well. I shouldn't be surprised/disappointed considering my weak stats. Still stings though.
Could be worse. Priority reserve isn't that bad, and it doesn't really predict the rest of your cycle. I know it can feel bad since it's the first, but I got into three schools since my priority reserve email :) If your heart is set on Duke just do everything you can to let them know that and you still have a solid chance I think.

Thanks for the encouragement... needed that. I really hope you're right about this not predicting the rest of your cycle. Gotta work on that LOCI now.
I got UVA just a bit after Duke passed me up. You're fine.

Sup applicants, checking in!

Do we have any prevailing wisdom on the international law JD/LLM around here? Specifically, does that help or hurt my admission and scholly chances? (I'm very interested in international law, but I don't have super strong ways to demonstrate that interest other than a foreign language minor and six weeks abroad...a little concerned about writing a strong addendum.) I'm sitting at 3.98/168 and got a PT invite earlier this week.

I think a more appropriate question would be whether it would help or hinder your career. For admissions purposes, I understand that you are assessed as any JD applicant would be (and thus have exactly the same chance of success), and if you can show even a modicum of interest in international law (which, from the look of it, you can easily), then they'll add you onto the joint program. (I believe Duke actually say that it is very rare for an applicant accepted for the JD program to not be accepted onto the joint course - and if they don't think you're suitable, they'll just make you an offer for the JD).

Perfect, thanks very much! So what do you think about the question you posed?

This might have been covered already, but it's making me nauseous so I figured I'd ask-- I just submitted an app but it says "No report requested by law school" and so it's staying "active" instead of "complete." Is this normal? Or is it something I am doing/ not doing?
