I submitted in the first few hours that applications were accepted and still haven't heard anything.andyandy wrote:I submitted in late January and still haven't heard anything. I didn't write a "Why Emory?" or anything, but it is one of my top choices. When would it be appropriate to give the admissions office a call/send an email? Any other advice? My stats are 173/3.2

Emory 3L c/o 2011. I'll take questions for a bit. I'll only answer the questions I think won't out me, are specific enough to not be regurgitation, etc. Ask about life in Atlanta, too.
I will do this until I get bored. Go.
edit: On second thought, this isn't the appropriate venue for this discussion. See here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=150918

Really? What were you asking for and what did they give you? If anyone else got a merit scholarship, would you mind sharing how much and your stats?SrLaw wrote:flexityflex86 wrote:Is it possible Emory upped the scholarships since the new rankings? I feel like my scholarship was high before, but now low compared to similar #'s since Monday.
+1, and they are not negotiating.

Well to be fair isn't emory's median gpa like 3.51 so he's above median for GPA, and they dont really seem to care about bumping their lsat median.SrLaw wrote:my 167/3.44 got me 15K less? Thanks Emory.lokist86 wrote:Just got my acceptance via email today.

Re: Emory 2011
Also, Emory is known to look at more than numbers when deciding on scholarships. There was a poster on here last year who didn't get any money, and a friend of his with either the same or slightly worse numbers did. He asked Ethan about it, and he was apparently told that people were put into groups based on things like propensity to attention and community impact/unique experiences along with numbers, and that scholarships were decided from there. For non Woodruff finalists, I think the top scholarship last year was 72k, and I somehow ended up in that group along with people who had much higher numbers than I did.Sandro wrote:Well to be fair isn't emory's median gpa like 3.51 so he's above median for GPA, and they dont really seem to care about bumping their lsat median.SrLaw wrote:my 167/3.44 got me 15K less? It's possible that admissions changed things up this year though, so who really knows.

Re: Emory 2011
on LSN a 166/2.4 just go in who was rejected/waitlisted at every other school they applied to.
They also went below both the 166 wall AND the 3.0 gpa wall for some guy whose parent was an alumni, and he said on LSN that he thinks it wasnt because of that...lol

Schools ranked past the T25 hVe a very difficult time in Florida getting past the big 3, or as we say in Miami, "Los grande tres".drummerboy wrote:How does it rank in Florida in comparison to UF FSU MIAMI?

Depends. For the bigger/corporate type firms Emory + a compelling reason for being there is going to be golden. But most of the legal work in the state is comprised of a more "local boy" feel, where almost everyone is from in state schools and some will have that alumni bias. Even then though, if you're from the area or have some sort, you'll at least have name recognition, which Emory does generally carry throughout Florida.drummerboy wrote:How does it rank in Florida in comparison to UF FSU MIAMI?

Thanks. I will consider both Atlanta and Florida. Im from Florida. My feeling is that Emory will open more doors in more places including Florida. From a previous thread, there is a nice Emory contingent in Florida firms. IMO @22 or 30, is irrelevent.

I think word on the street is Emory has a slightly better rep in FL than UF/FSU. How much probably depends.FeelTheHeat wrote:Schools ranked past the T25 hVe a very difficult time in Florida getting past the big 3, or as we say in Miami, "Los grande tres".drummerboy wrote:How does it rank in Florida in comparison to UF FSU MIAMI?

If its strictly based on ranking, as USNEWS and bitter TLS posters would have you believe, than Emory is a slam dunk despite falling 8 spots in the ranking. In addition, If the florida legal market continues to dry up, like it certainly appears to be, than where is a Miami FSU and UF graduate to go? Thats where status on a national scale becomes exceedingly important.
Imagine a respectable recruiter from a decent firm, thats been accepting Emory applicants at 22 ,say to himself, oh no emory is now 30 no more jobs to emory alumni until they go back up 8 spots.

USNews rankings matter more over time from what I've gotten. Nobody notices 8 slots over 1 year - it's only if it stays there.drummerboy wrote:If its strictly based on ranking, as USNEWS and bitter TLS posters would have you believe, than Emory is a slam dunk despite falling 8 spots in the ranking.
