You're one of the first TLS'ers that I've seen get in off a WL

Congrats on killing the Feb. LSAT and even more congrats on being accepted. Please check back when you get the packet in the mail to advise of any scholarship info, if you don't mind.saintpaulJ wrote:In off the waitlist via voicemail today. Packet is in the mail.
It can't hurt. You have a good LSAT, but it is below the median. Your GPA may more than make up for that, though. It's not as if they'll take your scholarship away if you ask for a bit more help.MST3K wrote:typ3, do you think it is worth sending an e-mail about negotiating my scholarship?

I wonder if that means I didn't get any $. She didn't say anything.Boggs wrote:Accepted off the WL by phone today, with money.
Thanks for the advice, ScrabbleChamp. I'll draft my letter today.ScrabbleChamp wrote:It can't hurt. You have a good LSAT, but it is below the median. Your GPA may more than make up for that, though. It's not as if they'll take your scholarship away if you ask for a bit more help.

If you check out LSN it looks like, for a few years now, that 167 and up is the mark to shoot for. I had a bad cumulative GPA, decent undergrad GPA (with upward trend) and a 167 and solid writing skills (used to write for a newspaper).
FTFY.
Dude. We get it. You're upset that Minnesota waitlisted you. Please go lurk somewhere else.
Thanks. She didn't initially say anything to me either. I had to ask her. It certainly wouldn't mean you didn't get money if she didn't mention it. The information should be in the packet. Good luck.saintpaulJ wrote:I wonder if that means I didn't get any $. She didn't say anything.Boggs wrote:Accepted off the WL by phone today, with money.
Congrats, by the way.
Good to know. Thanks for the reply.Boggs wrote:Thanks. She didn't initially say anything to me either. I had to ask her. It certainly wouldn't mean you didn't get money if she didn't mention it. The information should be in the packet. Good luck.
Did you have any drastic changes in your application, or was this out of the blue? I sent in an email earlier today asking about my status, so I'm hoping instead of replying, they just call to tell me I've been accepted, since they do seem to be making some decisions today.Boggs wrote:Accepted off the WL by phone today, with money.
Dude does have a point. There's a corridor of 167-169 admits followed by a smattering of 170+ waitlists.chrisbru wrote:athenian wrote:chrisbru wrote:HornetGuy wrote: I think the big advice I'd give a UMN hopeful is scorebiga 167-169 (because they WL almost ALL 170+) on the LSAT, hone your writing skills, spend some time doing volunteer work or community service, and show an upward trend in your GPA. Whoa... I'm hardly lurking. I'm just checking in so I know what's going on in case I get pulled off the waitlist and my gf doesn't get in to Iowa or St. Ambrose. I'm not at all upset... I already knew I was going to be waitlisted, due to my dismal GPA. I can show you in my "law school expectations" spreadsheet (I'm a nerd.)
However, the fact of the matter still remains... 170+ means waitlist around 70% of the time, according to LSN from this year.

I sent two emails. The first was a pretty frank explanation about the fact that finances are going to play a major role my decision making (even though I've been accepted to higher ranked schools). I sent that two weeks ago.ScrabbleChamp wrote:Did you have any drastic changes in your application, or was this out of the blue? Cool. I didn't send a "Why UMN" essay when I applied, so when I was waitlisted, I sent one... That was about 3 weeks ago. I'm thinking of writing an LOCI tonight and sending that in, as well.Boggs wrote:I sent two emails. Then I send a very traditional LOCI last week.

I hope it works out for you, man. Did you write them a LOCI and say, "hey, UMN, I really want to go here and you know you want a monster like me - let's do this thing."
Feel free to copy and paste.
Did they send you a confirmation email when you sent in your "Why UMN"? If not, send an LOCI. Even if they did, I don't think it would hurt.ScrabbleChamp wrote:Cool. They did, but I'm going to mention new stuff in the LOCI. I figure the worst that will happen is it will annoy them to the point of realizing I really want to attend, and maybe that'll give my file the extra push it needs to be admitted. Wait... maybe that's the best that can happen.Boggs wrote:Did they send you a confirmation email when you sent in your "Why UMN"? If not, send an LOCI. Even if they did, I don't think it would hurt.
