Likelihood is a maybe. $$ at UGA vs sticker for Vandy. I want to practice in ATL (though I am open to other locations in the South). Tough decision.pleasetryagain wrote:for those accepted what is your likelihood of attending? what would it take to get you to pass it up? barring the obvious HYS(C).

I just peeped in here to see if anyone needs any information about Nashville. I live in Nashville, and I can probably help answer some questions if there are any.

At sticker there's no way. However, I think I'm a strong candidate for scholarships, and with a decent scholarship I'd probably pull the trigger, especially if I don't get any tenable offers from the T14.pleasetryagain wrote:for those accepted what is your likelihood of attending? what would it take to get you to pass it up? barring the obvious HYS(C).

Full tuition or very very near it, to pass up Mich and CC... though that kind of scholarship is a long shot for me.pleasetryagain wrote:for those accepted what is your likelihood of attending? what would it take to get you to pass it up? barring the obvious HYS(C).
Vandy seems like a really pleasant, collegial, happy place, which I'm looking for in a law school (I know, silly me, wanting to actually enjoy my law school experience)... and it's warm down there
The Obiter Dictum was really nice. I feel like I know more about life at Vandy than I do at other schools.

Fairly small. Better chance I'll attend UVA, or if I am admitted, Duke. I'm waiting for scholarship info from Vanderbilt, since anything more than half tuition might start enticing me away from these other schools.pleasetryagain wrote:for those accepted what is your likelihood of attending? what would it take to get you to pass it up? barring the obvious HYS(C).

The Obiter Dictum was the best law school welcome book of any school I've received so far.

I'm between 4 schools right now, so I'm waiting until I visit them all to decide. I won't be going to Vandy until the ASD in April, so I'll have to see how it compares to the others.pleasetryagain wrote:for those accepted what is your likelihood of attending? what would it take to get you to pass it up? barring the obvious HYS(C).

Ive been to Nasvhille a few times. It seems to me like the town is kind of "gimmicky" meaning it's like one giant tourist trap with no authentic feel of it's own. Is that just because I was in the "tourist" area or is that the general feeling you get when living there as well? How would you compare it to NY (smaller obviously but in terms of atmosphere and feel)?

Re: Vanderbilt 2013
I lived in downtown Nashville for about 6 months in 2007. I'd say the downtown club/bar strips definitely have a little touristy "twang" to them, but I wouldn't say that it has no personality. Nashville is all about music and politics, for sure, but people are pretty genuine. Parts of the city remind me of the Georgetown area in DC.pleasetryagain wrote:roguey wrote:I just peeped in here to see if anyone needs any information about Nashville. It's smaller than NY and cleaner. People are friendlier and there are some great shopping malls, though not all centrally located as in NY - Green Hills has a Tiffany's, a Louis Vuitton, and a Cole Haan (for example). Street vendors are few and far between and there's nothing around that even gets CLOSE to Canal Street. The Tennessee River cuts through the heart of downtown but there are no huge bodies of water as there are in NY. Overall, I would say the feel of Nashville is more intimate and open - definitely "warmer" than the atmosphere in NY. It feels more like a college town in parts because there are so many students around and it has a significantly more diluted metropolitan environment. The sense of community is very strong especially when the Dores or the Titans are playing.
Hope this helps some!

Complete 11/30
DM 2/16
LSAT around median, GPA is below 25th percentile
I'm not overly optimistic and even if I am accepted, I doubt I would get much scholarship money. Full tuition in an economy like this would be a hard pill to swallow. But Vanderbilt seems like a great place to be, plus, I am probably more of a prestige whore than I deserve to be. I guess I spend too much time on this blasted website.

Small. If they offer me a substantial amount of money, I will reconsider. It's unfortunate because it seems like a really nice school, but I'm just not sold on Nashville, and I can't at this point leave the money that's been offered to me elsewhere on the table.pleasetryagain wrote:for those accepted what is your likelihood of attending? what would it take to get you to pass it up? barring the obvious HYS(C).

Waiting until after all the ASDs to make a decision. Vandy with money might be a game changer.
