I think people need some laughs in this thread, so... for all the DLS/rejected folks: I found the text of a sample LOCI you can send:Manly wrote:Definitely Waitlist/Reject--still hopeful for a few more admits!

mdrell92, Do they know without a doubt that they're you're 1st choice? B/c I imagine adcomms see URMs w/ your numbers as golden "gets"—so SLS, I imagine, is nervous you'll ditch 'em the sec YLS comes aknockin'. Maybe by holding on to your app for so long, they're hoping to force your hand—i.e., they fig you'll fold the sec you're in at YLS, so they're waiting until the point in time that they know YLS is finished making offers. If you already sent in a "Why Stanford?" stmt and/or a LOCI, maybe your choices of wording didn't quite convince SLS that they're at number one rather than tied at number one with YLS and HLS?mdrell92 wrote:Same here. It was my top choice going in, and even though I'll be happy if I don't get in, it's really odd because I thought I had a pretty decent shot but the weeks have just gone by...
I'm thinking, if SLS is truly your numero uno, throw coyness to the wind: send an email straight to Dean Deal (her direct email is made available via the SLS site) explaining flat-out that you haven't eyes for anyone else—even go so far as to reveal your YLS and HLS status and offers (ex: say, "At SLS I can/I get to [INSERT aspects about SLS that aren't readily offered at YLS\HLS], therefore, despite YLS offering me $X and HLS offering me $Y, I consider SLS my dream school. If I'm accepted at SLS, then, I promise, the others will be dead to me—I'm 100% for SLS!"). (By slyly mentioning the $ amt of your other offers, and choosing wording that exposes your zeal for SLS without, technically, locking you into a commitment before knowing what money SLS can offer, you signal to SLS your "market" value, plus you quicken your future SLS FinAid negotiations.) Also, throw in mention of the qualities/abilities that you bring to the table that aren't a dime a dozen—i.e., remind them about what you offer that others don't.
Barring major weaknesses in your app elsewhere (e.g., your recs secretly despised you; C&F issues; horrid writing ability; evidence of arrogant entitlement; etc.) and presuming your numbers are what you say they are (or higher), I imagine SLS wants nothing more than to call you its own—it's just they're not convinced you won't ditch them should YLS or HLS look your way.
All to say: It's not you, it's the need of SLS to yield protect.

Well, I'm certainly flattered you think so highly of me, but as of Friday I won't be holding YLS over their heads as bait/guilt. I sent targeted LORs and other schools certainly seemed to be happy with my personal/diversity statements, so I guess SLS is just doing its own thing and I won't be able to be coddled by CA weather for much longer.
I'm also only a "soft" URM so to speak - I'm LGBTQ and Asian-American/white mixed.

Yep, they replied to my email (I sent it as an email), and said that it was added to my file. Took them about a week though..lwo786 wrote:anyone get confirmation that their loci was received? if so, who did you send it to and how long did it take to get a reply?

Re: Stanford C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
This is getting crazy, at the beginning of the process I would have told you Stanford was my first choice, but now I am almost resentful of how long it is taking to hear anything. I put a deposit in somewhere else and I am really excited about going there, but I just want the hammer to fall from SLS already. Is this normal? Did people have to wait all the way to the last week of April last year? And are any of us still waiting going to be admitted, or is it just a matter of ding vs WL? If we are not going to get in then I really don't understand what the wait is for.......

My thoughts exactly. If I'm not gonna get in, can I just know and move on?ooo1800 wrote:This is getting crazy, at the beginning of the process I would have told you Stanford was my first choice, but now I am almost resentful of how long it is taking to hear anything. Common sentiments around this area, don't worry.ooo1800 wrote:This is getting crazy, at the beginning of the process I would have told you Stanford was my first choice, but now I am almost resentful of how long it is taking to hear anything. I'd have as much luck guessing what Stanford are doing as I would reading tea leaves. They're famous (notorious?) for doing their own thing with admissions, with regards to who they admit as well as when they admit/the process behind it. The timings have been 'weird' this year as far as I understand, which is to say they don't match other years in ways consistent with other schools. Having said that, I find it incredibly hard to believe that they're this far behind and still need to admit a bunch of people. But like I said, who fucking knows. Like you, I think if people are getting dinged this late then thats just a bit shitty on their part given how late in the admissions cycle it is, but oh well. Potentially only 5 days of SLS waiting left anyway

Based off of that threads from the past couple of years, if you haven't heard back yet it's a ding or WL. Some people got the DLS the evening of the 30th and a lot of people didn't get it until May 1st, but I couldn't find any straight acceptances this late in the game.

DLS sometime this afternoon/early evening. Went complete mid-January. I'll probably call tomorrow to see whether it was a WL or outright ding.

And what does the gods of Stanford admissions decisions say about giving me a decision?
Not today. Again.
But maybe this afternoon.
