+1 Yeah and also just to point out that their employments stats rock. You can hate Duke all you want, but the school is very well regarded across the nation both undergrad and grad.jym_dawg wrote:To be fair Duke's rep in the South is just as good, if not better than, HYS among most peeps, including many in the knoesublime12089 wrote:BigZuck wrote:Cliffs on why everybody hates Duke? I have never even been to the Southeast so I don't really know much of anything about these schools other than their general reputations. I always thought Duke was similar to Vanderbilt. No?
They have a douchey preppy reputation. They tend to embrace it also. Some of it is from college hoops, as there is some tension and that it is a "rich/white boy school" - if anyone watched the Fab Five, Jalen Rose's comments are what I am talking about. The lacrosse thing didn't really help anything either.
Also, I feel like the school, not just law but as a whole, acts like it is better than it is. A very very good school, without a doubt, but it isn't Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Princeton, etc.
Btw, I don't hate Duke students or anyone who goes to Duke just for that reason, I hate them because they are assholes. - jk the institution as a whole tends to rub people the wrong way.

I'm considering visiting in the near future, and I've already sent a LOCI.
By the way, my calling/demanding worked. Georgetown Financial aid admitted they screwed up my file and they're sending me a revised award letter. Now, to wait and see if its enough to make it a fun showdown between Vandy and Gtown.kraffcook wrote:I may have exaggerated in my original posts. I wasn't in a good mood and the Georgetown forum already isn't the happiest place in the world. I'll address this part because it was an odd circumstance. Basically, I was told I'd get need-aid, then I didn't. I called to ask why and it took some back and forth with the financial aid office, explaining my circumstances, for them to look up my file. After a quick 5-minute review, the guy told me he'd pull my file for a full review and get back to me. That's where I am now.cusenation wrote:I see both sides here. GULC...to put it nicely..has dropped the ball this cycle from PR standpoint. I myself rage-withdrew. But calling the adcomm to argue, while completely justified (props to you brother), probably wasn't the most tactful thing to do.sublime12089 wrote:That is fine. I did say that I only skimmed the posts. However, I cannot imagine a situation in which calling the admissions office and "arguing" with them about financial aid and "demanding" that they review your file is appropriate.kraffcook wrote:
You're taking my posts completely out of context. Georgetown's admissions office has been notoriously unhelpful this year for many admitted students, including myself, and if you don't know the details, I'd appreciate you withholding your criticism.
Anyway forget GULC, you're in the land of milk and honey that is the Vanderbilt thread!
Vanderbilt, meanwhile, has been nothing but helpful since I was accepted and was my top choice before I was drawn by the allure of living in Washington. I know nothing about Nashville or that state of Tennessee in general, so I guess I'll see how much I like it when I come up in a couple weeks.

It actually looks like no one, except for one, that submitted January or later has been declined. I'm expecting a big wave of them pretty soon unfortunately. I love VandyJayJones78 wrote:Complete since 1/2 with no sign of anything. It looks like Vandy doesn't wait to ding people and they do it throughout the cycle. Should I expect to wait much much longer?
I submitted 12/21 and went complete 1/2 don't know if it matters at all.teiswei wrote:It actually looks like no one, except for one, that submitted January or later has been declined. Sorting by sent and complete dates it looks like it doesn't. There are only a few declines so far and we are rapidly approaching April. I hope our fates are positive, but for me, I expect a ding.JayJones78 wrote:I submitted 12/21 and went complete 1/2 don't know if it matters at all.teiswei wrote:It actually looks like no one, except for one, that submitted January or later has been declined. Nobody here can effectively answer this because URM cycles vary so consideribly from non-URM. Part of this has to do with schools different forecasting models for hitting their numbers.JayJones78 wrote:Complete since 1/2 with no sign of anything. To some degree I think that many of my remaining apps will stay pending until first deposit deadlines are passed because it will give a much better outlook on who's still in the URM pool and who's out.
