Okay, that's less offensive than I'd imagined. Doesn't sound like they're saying not to visit or something if that would help you make up your mind, they're just clarifying that it won't help them make up their mind. Sounds fair.

Maybe they are just trying to be helpful and not waste any of your time which might be valuable depending on the person's situation. I wrote a very spirited LOCI to get in off the wait-list but then again, I got my notification that I was off the wait list only a few hours after I emailed my LOCI so it probably didn't matter.

Yeah. I have a hard time believing that doing any of those things, assuming you do them properly, would hurt. It may not help, but I can't imagine it'd hurt.

I would tend to agree, they likely already had your email in the que and just so happened to send LoCI right before.

The decision goes through a process and it is not like one person read it and said ok tell him and an hour later it was done

Will be withdrawing next week (half tuition scholarship). I'd imagine there will be some WL movement after the second deposit deadline.

The last email pretty much said they wouldn't be looking at the waitlist until after the second deposit deadline (June 1st). The admitted/attending kids moved to the Class of 2015 forum and there is a waitlist thread here: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 7&t=184941

I sent my LOCI prior to receiving her email; it just gets quite stressful knowing your future is on the line, but you were asked to sit on your hands.

Oh man that's rough, I feel for you. I'm still on the waitlist for a few schools too but I prefer Illinois to all of them. Must be rough having your number one choice playing hard to get with you. Have you visited the school? Outside of sending a LOCI I think the best thing you can do go there in person and physically meet the admissions people.

I'm in the same boat. UIUC is my top choice and has been since before I even began my cycle... (UIUC alumnus here)
I sent a LOCI and visited but they pretty much told me exactly what was in the email. Though, I did love the tour and got to sit in on a great civ pro class which made for an enjoyable afternoon.
I am intent on riding this wait list out to the end of the earth and should I not get in, I will be retaking in October and applying again, as disheartening as a WL rejection would be.

Keep your head up. I was rejected last cycle at Illinois and many other schools so I decided to take the year off to retake and reapply. My GPA didn't change much but my LSAT did and I got into Illinois with money. Of course it is a hard decision to make if it comes down to it (and I hope you make it in off the waitlist), but at the same time it can be beneficial in the long run.

However, the rules they lay out (don't email, don't call, don't visit, simply put: FUCK OFF) are kind of ridiculous and take away any opportunity you might have to convince them to accept you, off the table.

That's crazy they would tell you not to visit. I'm a rising 2L and when I originally applied in '10 it was quite the competitive year and I never made it off the waitlist, but I visited and introduced myself and as my numbers did not change at all, I think visiting combined with multiple LOCI's and a heartfelt Why Illinois essay all made the difference. I reapplied also and got in with money. It was a difficult decision to take a year off but I think it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I remember a girl sitting in on our civ pro class with Kordik, perhaps that was you? Anyway, good luck!

Just realized you'd be paying sticker at NU. With the way the economy seems to be headed, I would not pay over $200,000 for a law degree from any school outside of HYS.
