I think there is a subtle distinction between a hold and a wait list

I don't think so. I think that means they're literally not ready to make a decision on you yet. You can still get WL from here, but you can also still get another decision. Congrats on surviving the slaughter!

Just got "held" for further review. Is this a WL? Above both 75ths, btw. So I guess Penn is just on a rampage.

I got "held" too. I guess it's not a WL because my status checker changed to:

Current Status: Under Committee Review
Current Status Date: 1/7/2011
