Re: Northwestern c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Hey all--was just clicking around on their financial aid website and noticed that the deadline for appealing is next week (2/15). I've written to them to ask if they have guidance for those of us who haven't been admitted by that point--I can let everyone know what I find out. Alternatively, if someone already knows the answer, feel free to post!Finickywalrus wrote:Unrelated post, but just so everyone is aware, Northwestern has a dependency appeal process that allows you to be considered independent if you have supported yourself for 30 months prior to matriculation. If that is the case, DO NOT send in your CSS profile before initiating the dependency appeal process.
I have several years of work experience (along with all of the extensive documentation they require to validate it), but the mere fact that I sent in my CSS profile (with my parent information) before beginning the process makes me ineligible to be considered independent. It doesn't matter if you're unaware of the appeal process when you send in the CSS profile. They will not make an exception. And I guess they can't disregard the parent info or retract the CSS profile. I think it's ridiculous, so I'm hoping this post will help someone avoid my mistake!
tl;dr Even if you're technically independent at Northwestern (30 months of self-support prior to matriculation) simply sending in your CSS profile will automatically make you dependent.

I have a bunch of questions about their financial aid policies, but I feel like some may be answered in the admitted students packet... Did you get a packet in the mail yet?xandra_v wrote:Hey all--was just clicking around on their financial aid website and noticed that the deadline for appealing is next week (2/15). Out of nowhere.
Got an email saying congratulations with a video (haven't watched yet). All the email says is congratulations and welcome and fill out form of interest.
But no official "you are accepted".
DLDS still just complete.
I'm accepted, right?!

No--I have not yet been admitted. I am trying to verify with them what, if anything, I need to do before the deadline they list for this on their website given that I am not likely to be admitted by the deadline, if I am going to get admitted at all.votebuilder1 wrote:I have a bunch of questions about their financial aid policies, but I feel like some may be answered in the admitted students packet... Haven't lurked here for a while. After reading some recent posts, I checked my status checker. And yes I have the tuition deposit $750. I'm in. Just their email is really clueless.lawlzschool wrote:if you aren't that would be the most f'ed prank everbrinicolec wrote:Sounds like it...hellohalo wrote:![]()

My DLDS also says complete as 12/13. I'm accepted. So the date change/unchanging really means nothing.addie1412 wrote:No, but my decision letter delivery page says "complete as of 12/09"proteinshake wrote:do yall have a date in your status checker? mine just says "Application Complete"

In! completely stoked. Was expecting a rej/wl since I applied without work experience. International applicant here, did my off-campus interview around late November.
