The range sounds kinda dope on one hand, from a historical perspective. On the other hand, outdoor bathrooms and no air-conditioning in summer in Charlottesville sounds unpleasant.

I thought about it for about five seconds, and decided not to. At least for 1L, I want to be as close as possible to North Grounds.

As our resident UVA expert, please explain what the Range is.
They are two wings of graduate student housing immediately east and west of the original Academical Village. You apply to live there and it considered an honor if you get it.

As our resident UVA expert, please also suggest areas for a car-less person to stay while visiting.
Depends on how much you want to spend. Inn at Darden is right at the B school next door to the law school, but will probably run you $100+ a night. There's also a red roof inn right on the Corner (not sure how much it costs). There's also a budget inn right off of Emmett that I've heard is pretty cheap. If you're anywhere near Central Grounds, you can catch the Northline bus which will take you to the law school.

This is mostly right only Red Roof is now The Graduate and kind of pricey and Budget Inn is now Excel. I know that confusion has caused problems for parents trying to book things for graduation this year.

If I was born in 1800 I'd invest in indoor plumbing. It's gonna be big.
