Seriously, this is tough. My only top 20 acceptances are wustl with 84k or UVA at sticker. In the end probably 140k debt vs 240k. Either way it's scary as hell.

TLS says total cost of attendance to WUSTL is $63,707. x3 thats $191,121. -84k thats 107k. Still a lot of money, but 33k less than you thought

I'm at 84k right now and it's a good offer but I really feel like I need to bring the cost lower to justify passing up on a t14.

Numbers in profile, made the mistake of not applying to peer schools to leverage (though to be fair no one in the 15-22 range is as generous as WUSTL in the first place)

Similar #s and did the exact same thing last year. Ended up locked out of the T14, and didn't apply to any peers to use in negotiation. They saw right through my lame attempt to negotiate with no other offers. I don't even remember how I phrased it, but I know it was the best I could come up with and lousy.

The way WUSTL seems to be throwing scholly money around, I'd say your chances are good at negotiation - especially with your LSAT and t14 acceptance(s). Realistically, most of the people who get the 6-figure scholarship money also have t14 acceptances. Some will pass up WUSTL for those higher-ranked schools. Thus, there will be more money freed up for bribing students to come there (I mean that in the nicest way possible).

I'm about 99% sure I'm going to take 129,000@WUSTL over 45,000@Michigan. 0 debt vs. 100k in debt sounds amazing. I don't want big law, and I'm ok living anywhere. Plus my wife can easily transfer to St. Louis, but not to Ann Arbor.

Is anyone else taking WUSTL over T14? We should start a club...

Plus the estimated cost of living is very, very generous. I took out the max this year, but next year I'll definitely be cutting out at least 3k/semester or more depending on my work situation this summer.

Tuition will go up though, so do factor that into your calculations.

Not as long as you know what you're getting into (LinkRemoved) and are comfortable with that. Not implying anything by that whatsoever, fwiw. I think there are people for whom taking a large scholly over t14 at sticker makes sense, and lots that shouldn't

I think that just means they wont pay your tuition if you transfer. That's how I read it, at least.

I think that just means they wont pay your tuition if you transfer. That's how I read it, at least.

It means that if s/he is doing a dual degree program, your scholarship will not be applied to the semesters when you're technically enrolled in the other school/division.
