Wow! You heard today?!?!?! First off, congrats! Did they give you a call?
Secondly, NYU admissions must be working hard. I love that they're so much more personable this year.

I'm a 173/sub 25th gpa, and applied RD. I'm thinking about writing adding a DS and/or a Why NYU to add to my app. Have any of you done this? Should I mail a hard copy or is there a way to submit it via LSAC?

I don't know NYU's policy on this, but I forgot to attach my Cornell DS when I was applying, notified them the next day and they were fine with me emailing it. Idk how they feel about you just adding stuff to your application though. Worth a shot either way.cogitoergosum wrote:I'm a 173/sub 25th gpa, and applied RD. I added a "Why NYU" to my app about a month after submission. I just emailed it and they were fine with it.cogitoergosum wrote:I'm a 173/sub 25th gpa, and applied RD. I think conventional wisdom is no Why essay for CCN. Don't know how accurate that conventional wisdom is.

FWIW, the conclusion of my PS was Why NYU-ish.

Re: NYU Class of 2015 Applicants
I have no idea, but it just seems kind of silly to write one for the NY schools (unless you're worried about your numbers and have a program you like there that you can talk about or something). While there are certainly people who hate the thought of living in NYC, most people would be at least moderately interested, it's one of the few legal markets still doing okay (comparatively), it's known as an amazing city, and they're both prestigious schools. They would probably just get a million essays that said "New York is the most magical place on earth and I'm a special snowflake and I belong there blah blah blah." Maybe they didn't want to read that over and over. I can see writing one for Chicago a bit more maybe, but in general once you get to NYU it's more of a "why NOT t6" situation.goodnewsevery1one wrote:Interesting. Re: NYU Class of 2015 Applicants
I've always thought of "Why X" statements as a "Please don't YP me" statement. And none of CCN YPs. I do know of people that wrote them and it may have helped, however. I definitely would not tell people they shouldn't write one. They just aren't really necessary IMO.
(I did not write one. Probably good because I didn't get into any school that I did write one for

The general consensus is that HYSCCN don't need why Xs because everyone wants to go theresalsahips wrote:goodnewsevery1one wrote:Interesting. Why is that?RonnyDworkin wrote:I think conventional wisdom is no Why essay for CCN. Don't know how accurate that conventional wisdom is.

Re: NYU Class of 2015 Applicants
I originally didn’t write one, but took a trip to New York and visited NYU after I already submitted my application. Since it is one of my top choices (and by top I don’t mean sixth after YHSCC, by the way), I figured I would write one and explain my interest after actually seeing the school. I am also interested in a specific program so I talked about that, as well.

I had almost forgotten about this after a tranquil weekend... And then I came back to TLS. Oy. I am neurotic to the max.
Hopefully this week brings good news to us RDers! Good luck everyone!

Like I said before, I didn't write an entirely separate essay, but the end of my PS was pretty "Why NYU". Another reason to throw in there about not doing it though (particularly with NYU and Columbia) (and a reason I considered not writing one) is that a lot of the good things to be said about NYU can be said about Columbia. Both schools have similar programs, placement, and are in the same city. That said, I'm still glad I wrote mine because I was in the same situation as Amanda where NYU was my top choice / not after HYSCC, and I wanted to convey that. Either way, I think that if it doesn't sound like you could've written it for any one of the school's peer institutions, I'd go for it. I'd personally also avoid Why NYU/why Columbia statements that are basically interchangeable. Both are awesome schools with a lot of similar strengths; if you don't have a good reason for one of them being your first choice over the other, then don't write a halfhearted Why X.
Just my 0.02.
edit: might be worth mentioning, I did not explicitly say NYU was my top choice in my PS because I felt like it was redundant with ED.

Just out of curiosity, when it comes time for waitlists/deferrals/rejections, will those also show as "Decision Letter Sent" in the status checker followed by snail mail? Or will those who are waitlisted/deferred/rejected get an email?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
