generally, the uws can be a bit expensive, but I would look on websites such as renthop.com and nybits.com to see what's available. Be aware that some apt postings are fake, but it's always worth a shot to take a look. Try to get a no fee rental (the broker fees can get really pricey in the city). Additionally, if you live in the area, you can often walk into buildings to see what's available or find out information on the management company.owells wrote:anyone living off campus their first year? any suggestions for places to live?

Has anyone had any success with scholarship negotiation. I was offered 75k and I'm trying to up it to 90k by leveraging 81k from BU. I hear they're pretty stingy though...

I've tried twice and been denied twice. I used BU and WUSTL's offers as leverage and it did not work.

I haven't heard anything from them and I applied in December. Should I send an email/ give admissions a call?

Has anyone done a realistic calculation as to how much you can pay for rent (off-campus) and still survive on the standard loans? I'm trying to set my limit at $1,500 for a studio or 1BR but it's hard to find anything that isn't deep into Brooklyn/Harlem/Queens or a dank shoebox for that price.

At $1500, you're probably going to need roommates.fredmerz wrote:Has anyone done a realistic calculation as to how much you can pay for rent (off-campus) and still survive on the standard loans? Yeah, sorry for not being clearer, but my question was more about how much people are planning to spend on rent. I live in NY and am aware how high rents are (and it isn't impossible to live alone for around $1,500). Assuming one is taking the full COL loans, what is a reasonable amount to spend on rent per month, particularly first year?

I pay $875 on the upper east with roommates (3br with 3 people) - not super convenient to Fordham from there, but its cheap for Manhattan and pretty nice.

UES to Fordham isn't too bad if you're near an express line.

This may be of interest to my fellow WL'ers. It's an e-mail response after inquiring about the WL.
" Thank you for your email. We have indeed made an initial round of waitlist offers for our evening division. We will continue to make offers to our evening waitlist candidates based on the responses from the initial wave.
We appreciate your continued interest."

I called earlier in the week and was told it was unlikely there would not be any offers made until the June 1st deposit deadline.

This was for FT and I realize how brutal my grammar was in that last post. I meant to say that it would be unlikely for there to be any offers made before June 1.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
