Still trying to figure out how everyone seems to get 10K+ need aid. I am old and poor and have retired parents and I got a small fraction of that.

How long after receiving initial scholarship offer did it take to receive need-based aid offer? I just assumed that the scholarship offered me was all there was.

Re: UCLA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I received the need-based aid offer a week after I received the merit scholarship offer via a phone call from the Dean. The original need-based aid offer didn't include that initial merit scholarship but I emailed financial aid and they sent me an updated award(included both both and need based aid) a few days later.yodamiked wrote:How long after receiving initial scholarship offer did it take to receive need-based aid offer? Is UCLA slow in processing applications? I submit a few days ago (super late, I know), and I still haven't received an email saying they've received my application. Every other school I've applied to has sent an email (presumably automatic) within a couple business days of LSAC submission..

They take forever to even send the completion email. With that said, a lot of us are still here waiting to get dinged (at least I know I am). The time you applied pretty much makes you an automatic ding unless you have great numbers though :/ I would say at best you are gettting a WL.TheMostDangerousLG wrote:Is UCLA slow in processing applications? What counts as great numbers? (I assume I don't meet them, but I'm expecting a waitlist at best, regardless.)Dmini7 wrote:They take forever to even send the completion email. ETA: Just got confirmation from them that my application went through. No status checker though? Blergh.

Haven't heard from UCLA since going complete in early January. LOCI time? I might send one to them today but I'm torn.

Thoughts on the (now obsolete?) Consus Group Law rankings? placed UCLA consistently @ 11th through 2008. All other rankings appear to match closely with USNWR.

...so if I haven't heard anything since mid-late November, should I be as confused as I am?

Nope, just trying to plan a trip there, I think. I have a feeling we're in the long haul with UCLA, though. I'm bringing hard alcohol along with the chips.TheNextAmendment wrote:Bring soda too- just realized you're waiting on BC with me too. My last 2. Good luck to you. Oh nvm then. Id feel lonely if there werent 1000 other kids waiting on BC too. Yeah hard alcohol works. In fact, bring the cupcakes in your picture too. And the dog. On second thought, no leave the dog.

I know very little about Westwood and LA in general. That being said, I am trying to decide between an apartment in westwood & Brentwood.
Does Brentwood have things to do/eat like Westwood village does?
I heard that Westwood has an undergrad feeling to it while more post undergrads and young professionals choose Brentwood. Truth?
Anything else you want to throw out there?
Thanks.

Live just outside of Westwood would be my recommendation. The Santa Monica Blvd. area around Sawtelle is a good area to live in. The back streets surrounding Westwood Blvd south of Santa Monica Blvd are charming as well, and both areas have a ton of good cheap food. You can study the food of the Orient while you study the laws of the Occident.

if money is not an issue, i would suggest living in brentwood. it's nice and quiet (unlike westwood) and it gives the "little town" feel. there are plenty of GREAT places to eat in brentwood and a nice library and many coffee shops to study at.Charlie.Home wrote:I know very little about Westwood and LA in general. and yea, westwood can be really annoying sometimes and parking is such a b*tch. the commute from brentwood to westwood is 5 mins without traffic and during rush hour you can take the VA to school (almost like a secret path).
